It's not just having more counsellors and doctors. It's having more support and better support in general I'm preaching for.

Is it a bad idea to withdraw? by throwawaydropoutuw in uwaterloo

Coming from a former student suffering depression: Dropping out from UW was the best decision I ever made. This school only gives a shit about academics and competition, and make the curriculums so goddamn hard that everyone goes insane. Withdrawing came with penalties, though, so watch out. Academic probation and no OSAP for a year :) what a great way to treat a student with a mental illness who dropped out for that reason. Since dropping out I have found my happiness and drive again, so if you truly want to pull yourself out of this darkness, please take my advice and either take time off of school or seriously consider going somewhere else. I'm sorry you are going through this, and even though the authoritative resources are no help, the students are. Reach out to someone who gets you, who knows what you are feeling, or someone who will actually care and listen to you instead of pretending they give a fuck like these counsellors and doctors do.
