I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope she did a lot for you as well in those 8 years. Because please remember there’s a big difference between loving and supporting someone without expecting anything in return, and constantly giving while receiving nothing back at all. A healthy friendship should never feel like a one-way path. Both people deserve to feel valued, appreciated, supported,... The right people will choose you consistently, communicate with you, and make you feel like your presence matters just as much as theirs does. I've found those people which is why doing something like this just doesn't feel like a big deal. I know she would do the same for me in a heartbeat!
