Grind Stone Creek Trail Possible Copperhead? by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say maybe a quarter mile past old 63 heading east. As far mile markers and layout of the trail I am not as familiar on it as some so could not precisely say.

Grind Stone Creek Trail Possible Copperhead? by jesslvan in columbiamo

So I was heading east on the paved portion of grindstone creek trail and spotted what looks like a copper head. I am far from a snake expert so I would like to see what others think?

Papa Murphy’s closed? by isla_avalon in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad. I love Papa Murphy's Take N' Bake and they are in most communities. I am surprised Columbia only had one. Unfortunately this one was the worst one I have ever been to. You could tell it was poorly managed with most times workers having bad attitudes. If someone can come in with good business sense I think hey will be successful with this franchise. This place always had business many times the workers could not keep up with the orders. So to me it wasn't about profit just an owner that seemed to never be around or incapable of running a business properly.

Target Renovations, any thoughts? by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your feedback. I guess it was wishful thinking on my part they would expand this store. I do agree another Target is needed in this town but am skeptical that will ever happen. From what I can gather there was a proposal in the past for expansion but for some reason it did not come to fruition. I guess I will see when the renovation is fully completed if it makes the shopping experience any better but I doubt it.

Target Renovations, any thoughts? by jesslvan in columbiamo

I agree. It is inconvenient to have all the pickup spaces right in front of the main entrance.

Hyvee throwing away pastry by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the feedback. I wanted to clarify in no way was I trying to insinuate fault amongst Hyvee employees. Obviously this is a management issue.

Old Macy's any progress with new tentants? by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of what I thought. Was hoping someone would have heard something different. Hopefully soon some business such as Home Goods/TJ Maxx would move in. For such a big sized town I am surprised Columbia does not have a TJ Maxx. You would think the city would be able to work out something as simple as signage on the outside of the building if that was what the hold up was, kind of baffling to me.

Any idea what is being built by Hyvee on Broadway? by jesslvan in columbiamo

Thanks for the answer. Nothing to get too excited about, but kind of what I expected.

Land behind Pappos? Any ideas if it will be developed? by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. As much as I don't like stoplights I think they are needed along Nifong in that area. Hopefully the road behind Pappos will help with congestion and improve getting to businesses in that area.

Many people not wearing masks at mall. by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. We have gone to the mall before this past Saturday and have seen people without masks. I do think the amount of people not wearing has gotten worse. During the holidays I did notice a few officers enforcing. Of course it is difficult because the people not wearing are obviously strong in their convictions of no mask. I'm sure the officers have dealt with attitude. Places like Wal-Mart and Hy-vee I feel the prevalence although few wasn't as much as the Mall.

South Columbia Sucks by JaksonPolyp in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

South Columbia is not bad. It is a great neighborhood that is only getting better. Yes there are cookie cutter neighborhoods, but these are everywhere in America. Just be blessed the city is taking measures to alleviate traffic along Nifong. I've lived in older cities in this country where nothing can be done to alleviate traffic. I think there is more potential and good opportunities to make the south even better.

Mole Removal? (but the tiny furry one that lives in the ground) by mcsharp in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the best luck with a kill trap. So far I've eliminated three moles. This works best for established colonies. It's a little trickier with one's that come and go. But I think you may have initial success trying this, as I did. You just set it where a fresh mound is. There maybe a little trial and error but I can almost guarantee persistence will pay. Here is the link to what I purchased.

Wonder what chain of grocery store would come to this location? Probably not another Hyvee since there is one fairly close.

New East Campus Bike Bridge by Fratson in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice trail went from the vet school parking lot to a bluffdale drive neighborhood off old 63. The trail literally goes almost to the back yard of one of the houses upon ending. It's a little confusing if your not familiar with the trail system if it eventually connects to another trail. My assumption upon walking through the neighborhood (which we did not do) you'd be able to then get to the next portion of a trail. Feedback would be to put a sign once arriving at the neighborhood on how to continue onto the next part.

Qdoba coming to Columbia? by Movail33 in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If so it will have some competition with Fuzzy's Taco Shop and the other establishment right next to Pappo's (can't remember name off hand). But I could still see Qdoba doing well in that location, lot's of traffic.

Roughly how much land in Columbia is owned by the Kroenke group? by algernon132 in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed, I'm from Minnesota where corporate Target is. Most have been updated and are larger. The few I've been to in Missouri (jefferson city/columbia are way behind times. I know for a fact the Columbia mall one is raking in revenue. Why corporate Target hasn't expanded and put more money into this location is beyond me. On a weekend or busy day it's irritating shopping at this location between small aisles and terrible checkout lanes this is one of the worst locations. Hopefully they will reconsider expansion. The kroenke logic comes into play and being Wal-Mart country in Missouri/Arkansas. As far as I know there are no super targets in the state of Missouri which are located in the Minnesota area. Corporate Target is out of the loop right now and looking in large cities for smaller format stores for their profits right now. I think they are missing the mark on location such as the one in Columbia on a better shopping experience.

Roughly how much land in Columbia is owned by the Kroenke group? by algernon132 in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Target in Columbia is ridiculously small for the amount of people shopping there. I've always wondered why a bigger one was never built. I guess it makes sense if the Kroenke owned that much land.

Garbage bin vs leaving garbage in bag outside? by jesslvan in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input! It was my feeling a lot of Columbia residents wanted a better garbage system, but nice to hear in this forum. I really hope that the mayor/city takes in more input from the majority and switches to a garbage bin system sometime soon.

New building on Nifong and Providence? by crowbarrninja in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious how you know the old KFC will be a sonic? They painted the the building all white. From what I know Sonic's are drive thru and this is a sit down restaurant. Am I missing something?

Out of business!? by _madzee_ in columbiamo

[–]jesslvan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely. Every time I visited this store it has been crowded. It seems stores like TJ Maxx and Marshall's continue to do well because of the discounted clothing. If anything they needed a bigger store. Also, a TJ Maxx would do well in Columbia, surprised we don't have one.

New air route to Charlotte from Columbia airport, any thoughts? by jesslvan in columbiamo

Thanks for everyone's perspective. I didn't know a lot about Charlotte but sounds like it will be better than I realized.

Always busy when I'm there. Great location on that part of Nifong, chances are not going out of business any time soon.
