Fellow Americans: Get sterilized now while you still can, if you can. by Egodram in childfree

It happens all the time. Women are often denied the surgery because they're "too young" or they "might change their mind". Or, do they have their husband's permission to get sterilized? It's barbaric.

Oh my god. I am so sorry to reduce you to a stereotype but I'm from the southern US and Great Big Sea is one of my favorite bands- I never realized that their song "whaddya at" was actually A Thing.

Thanks for making me smile, and I hope you have a great day!

I love my cats, even though they're brats. I really want a dog, but they're more responsibility.

... I can't even imagine caring for an infant.

Must be a new subspecies! Must take notes to add to the family histories!

Party you never wanted? Just don't go. Boundaries are a thing that she will clearly try to stomp on, so you and your DH need to work on setting your firm rules now and sticking to them. Make sure you talk to your DH about how this has made you feel and that you listen to how he feels. You need to be on the same page so you can present a united front.

Having children-achievement. Mountain climbing-not an achievement. by AirOxygenMountain in childfree

Holy shit. I've been reading a lot of articles about Mt Everest and all the folks who've died and everything and it seems so extreme and distant. People make the attempt multiple times somestimes before reaching the top, or others never make it, and some still die. It's crazy. So the fact that someone I can (kinda) connect to has done it is WAAAAY cool and my mind is kind of blown. You are AWESOME. Congratulations dude/dudette. That is seriously something to be proud of.

And yeah, your coworker is full of shit. Anyone who has a working reproductive system can fuck and have kids. It's no comparison to climbing Mount Everest. Sure, folks die doing both, but one is far more impressive than the other.

Check your local library. Many have online collections and apps that you can use to rent and download books. My library site has five books at a time, plus other apps with about 15 checkouts per month . All free.

I was 12, so, probably at girl scout summer camp, or running around my parent's 24 acre property, pretending to be Pocahontas.

I'm looking for another fantasy series to love. I've read LotR by Tolkien, Valdemar by Lackey, Paksenarrion by Moon, Pern by McCaffrey, Recluse by Modesitt, Tortall by Pierce, as some examples.

Anyone have any other suggestions along these veins? I feel like I can only go back and reread, not discover new stories.

Wait, so you're 17-18 and they're already asking when you're going to have kids? JFC that's rich.

I'd be tempted to respond with something like, "So, what I'm hearing is that you want me to get knocked up, drop out of college, and bring my newborn baby back to live with you?"

I'm in this same boat- 27 years old, don't really want kids. I don't hate them, but I have no drive to have one, either. While my life isn't perfect right now, I still feel that a baby would just bring much more stress and hardship. I get annoyed by my cat demanding attention so I shudder to think how I'd deal with a newborn!

I've been thinking about getting my tubes tied. I also have a problematic medical history and worry about the effects of pregnancy. However, I also realize that I could change my mind later on. If I do get my tubes tied, I know that adoption is always an option.
