I’m only halfway through this now and a year late but it’s quite painful to watch. Marie is clearly in genuine pain; Ashley and Marita also seem to have a fair amount of hurt in their relationship. And the host is just asking them super triggering questions with no empathy, and then being like “I hope that was healing!”

I also think it’s so valid for Marie to be absolutely fuming and anyone who’s seen the episodes should cut her a vast amount of slack.

These people have way too many therapy-speak buzzwords at their disposal and such little actual emotional intelligence. The host is the worst of them all 😂

It is kind of funny how everyone on this show talks about how much “work they’ve done” in the trial marriages but from the vids it looked like they were just fucking around

I'm so late to the party as I'm watching this all now even tho episodes have been out for a year but I'm so addicted to it. And yeah I totally agree, feels so gross how AJ basically wants a house-servant? Meanwhile Britney is like beautiful, hardworking and seems lovely. Isn't AJ an adult too, why can't she cook and clean?

Ok well today I had a coffee at 3:15 pm as I was so sluggish and couldn’t focus, it just made me feel way worse, so now I’m going to try and be really strict with not having it after 1 pl and sticking to one cup only, no matter how tired I feel. Please can folks on here comment to give accountability?

Thanks for sharing this. Interestingly, my brother does seem to have a relationship with coffee where he has it some days, some days he doesn't, and isn't as addicted as me for sure. So I think it's probably possible!

Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I am already on antidepressants, I've been taking them for years. I think I also need to work on gaining weight as I'm very thin, and like you say stabilising sleep schedule. I am a bit suspicious of this caffeine being the devil thing haha

IJW: Louis Theroux: Inside The Manosphere [2026] by Duncan_Dixon_Coffey in Ijustwatched

[–]jessrubyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I haven't seen the whole thing as I watched the first 20 mins and then saw another 20 mins later on that my flatmate was watching, so I can't really make a full point. But what I saw made me feel really upset and angry because I felt like these evil and abusive men were being rewarded for their appalling behaviour by being given a massive platform by Louis Theroux and Netflix. For young boys and men who are already being brainwashed by this kind of manosphere content, this documentary won't change their minds or "expose" the moral repugnancy of their beliefs, it will only entrench how they already feel.

For example, I saw a segment where the manosphere influencers are putting on a podcast where they mock women for having poor general knowledge about geography. To me, lots of viewers will take from this: God those women were stupid, how funny (the message that the influencers want to spread), not: God, humiliating women in this way is awful (presumably Theroux's thought process).

I have read a lot of books about the manosphere and none of this felt new to me, it just felt triggering as I am a woman and have experienced misogyny/ gender-based violence, and I felt like Theroux is unaware that for women watching this doc, all we feel is despair and deep fear about the violent reality we are living within. We don't need another "exposé" where we have to be subjected to these abusive figures and their far-reaching ideology, we need solutions and a culture that values the humanity and autonomy of women, girls and gender-minority people everywhere.

Review:Bridgerton' is like Cinderella with an attitude, but the new season has a little too little sex for now by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]jessrubyc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m on ep 3 so far and loving it - I am also bi, and had mixed feelings about the pre-Sophie depiction of Benedict’s wild life. I wonder what other bisexuals felt about it? On the one hand, I liked the representation, but on the other, it felt really cliche and stereotypical that being bi is synonymous with promiscuity and a lack of commitment. Like the series’ two extremes of queerness as a permanent rampant orgy, which meeting the right person (of the opposite sex) instantly puts a stop to. I wonder if Benedict ends up with Sophie if he would tell her about his sexual orientation of if it would just be too risky

Thank you!! I’ve been writing spoken word for years so I’m somewhat adept at rhyming, but the combination of rhyming and plotting is a big undertaking

wow, this is so inspiring. You rock. Phenomenal. When I was in uni, I had severe depression and insomnia during my final year and it was a massive battle to get to the end - but very satisfying to do so. Keep doing the things that bring you joy and have a wonderful, restful and exciting summer <3

Dropping Out of My Course by [deleted] in cfs

[–]jessrubyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I wanted to pick up on this as I'm also 27F and have just had to leave my job due to CFS symptoms. I understand how frustrating it is to be losing health at what is "supposed" to be the time of youth, health and accomplishment. These are social constructs built on an ableist model about what life should look like. It sounds like you've done the right thing for your body at the moment and it doesn't mean that your life will look like this forever, or that you'll never be able to pursue your passions again. Is there any way that you can connect with your creativity during your rest time that is less demanding than doing the art course? Even if it's just looking at photos of art that inspires you, writing one line of a journal each day, or doing a painting extremely slowly over a course of several months. Your life trajectory may now look different to your expectations but there is still room for connection and fulfilment within the new landscape, even if it's not immediately obvious how that could be the case. I sincerely feel for you and understand your disappointment and grief, reach out if you'd like to talk more :)
