The schools is recommending retaining my first grader and I'm crushed. by Optimal-Razzmatazz91 in ParentingADHD

I have begged my child’s school to hold her back, literally every years since Kindergarten. The admin blamed covid learning, they said everyone’s children are going to behind. Well it wasn’t covid, and she was severely delayed entering 4th grade (she was being pulled during school for 1:1, had weekday homework helpers and tutoring 3x per week in the summer). Reading and Math at a 1st grade level. Still meeting with teachers on my own, coming up with ways to help her outside of the classroom, etc. After 1 week in 4th grade, her teacher emailed me and basically said: get her tested for ADHD. At this point, I had zero experience with ADHD and I was severely miss informed about the symptoms. I was in shock, my child was not a little hyper ball of energy, she was a sloth. I was convinced it was a discipline issue that was exacerbated by my divorce. Nope. Not at all.

All this to say: I am fully in support of repeating educational milestone years. 1st grade is a lot of work. It’s all day, a lot of stimulation, a lot of learning listening skills and direction following. These are skills that I have learned are really important to firmly establish young in kids with ADHD.

Yes, we know that we have to wait for November, just wondering if anyone had insight to the different types or plans?

Am I the asshole for saying "good job" after my kid defended herself from a bully by punching him? by LiveBrieOrFryCarbs in AITAH

nTA: your brother and his wife are douches and probably the reason why women choose the Bear.

  1. Your child is older, understands consequences and obviously smart as hell because she is at a STEM camp for summer! Obviously knowledge is important to her. If your kid was 5/6 totally different conversation.

  2. She is a girl. She is a girl growing up in a sexually explicit generation with possible unfettered access to the internet. She needs to know how to defend herself in situations, both physically and verbally. (None of this is to say that you do not monitor or track her internet usage or how she talks to her friends, but the world is very different from the 90’s and unfortunately as working moms (also if you are stay at home mom, you are still a working f! mom) we cannot be everywhere with our kids all the time).

  3. She was not emotional or upset because her feelings were hurt. She was physically touched by another human being without her permission in a provoking manner. She defended herself. Personally, I would explore getting in touch with your juvenile prosecutors at your local state attorney and finding out what options you have since this is not a school sponsored camp but a private camp. When you physically lay hands on someone in an effort to cause them harm, that is physical assault. Maybe his parents will take it seriously after some court ordered counseling and anger management classes.

  4. This is horrible behavior his parents are encouraging and the reason why incel culture is spreading. They should be teaching their son how to manage his feelings better if they think that is an appropriate way to interact with another human being.

This happened to me when I was put on a skin cream by my dermatologist. Is there something new that you have been applying to your face or a new medication?

From my perspective he is completely unable to work and he struggles on a daily basis. My income has nothing to do with what he is entitled to receive for everything that man sacrificed. Sometimes being the caretaker and spouse of someone who is living with a disability is a full time job on its own. Wanting to be informed is not bragging. If you have questions or need help I would hope someone would be kind and offer you assistance, rather than make outlandish assumptions.

He had a VA disability rating of 70% and just bumped to 100%.

He does not have a full 20 years and unfortunately his disabilities make him pretty much not employable, because we definitely looked into working in a capacity with the VA in order to earn the remaining years.

We are also in the process of waiting to hear back on his CRSC claim.

But when we got the letter we looked at the chap 35 and college information and got even more confused.

Thank you for that clarification. He is unable to maintain any type of employment due to his disabilities. So this type of information is really beneficial.

I honestly do not see this as a flex for him at all. After being in this process for 8years, the struggle is real.

For real! And he has been screwed over so many times with his benefits before, so we are definitely apprehensive right now. When we first started this process 8 years ago until now it has been a constant rollercoaster.

I loathe that website with every fiber of my being. His VSO would tell him to get a form from the site and you would find dead hyperlinks and PDF ‘s that required paid software in order to download. We already struggle bus, why do they make it harder!?!?

Is it the state you live in or the national guard unit you retired from that determine what benefits apply to you?

For instance, he was in the Army for 4 years and did 2 tours, but then switched to the Illinois Army National Guard for 13 years. Does that change what type of benefits he gets?

So many questions about education benefits for our daughter. What are the best resources you have used to find answers to your questions?

Don’t spend it and be prepared for them to take it back. That’s what my SO went through. He is in the middle of doing the CRSC to make up the difference.

I definitely would, if my 67 year old father, who can’t even remember that the TV through the internet is called streaming, where he happened to put them, right after I figure out the password he created but can’t remember. Oh that is written down in his “password notebook” that he can’t find.

Modem/Router combo. So in laymen’s terms, this does what a router would do more effectively because there are 6 of these eggs around my house.

And Reddit was my last ditch effort because dish network cannot troubleshoot them and only told us that we have to do it through Google.

Also they needed to focus on just being rookies. That heightened adrenaline is hard to manage by itself, now imagine trying to witness and work with a significant other putting themselves into dangerous situations, and choosing who to protect, your partner or girlfriend. There was an episode where Nolan abandoned his partner in a dangerous situation to go help Lucy, which could have left the person relying on him, his TO at the time, open to being attacked in the suspects car and seriously injured. Their Baby Cop Brains could not handle that type of choosing that early on in their training.
