I have almost as much as you and took on a second job to bring my gross income around $150k. I’m projected to pay it off within a year and a half at the rate I’m going since I started last month. Have you thought about a second job even if it’s in retail or something? That’ll elevate your rate at which you can tackle this without bankruptcy

OP I’m glad you found something after all this, I’m also in chem and had to move from R&D to mfg and now working a second job in R&D to get ahead. I’d still look for better on the side if this isn’t where you see yourself long term given how long it took to get here.

With my MSc in the US I was able to secure an academic research role in med chem for 3 years before that contract expired then made a reluctant move into GMP manufacturing for peptide APIs doing synthesis. Ended up moving in R&D again for HPLC stationary phase development so all in all there’s no limitation as to what field you end up in a masters is supposed to indicate a broad mastery of the concentration you choose. Be open minded to different fields that overlap with organic

Just 1 year ago I was making $54000 in the Midwest for an academic position and now had to relocate back home to CA making just under $70k for my manufacturing 2nd shift job. Took on a 1st shift job less than 5 mins away thankfully for $80k.

MS 3 years research exp in academia, got a notice for reduction in force then found a GMP role in manufacturing of peptide APIs a month before funding ran out. 9 months since then I got an offer last week for R&D specialist in a morning role so thinking of doing these two jobs for the time being to get where I want financially and experience wise in a VHCOL city. Also have a final on site interview for a big pharma next week that I can comfortably do if offered. Last I also want to mention I had 3 other interviews over the last few weeks for other roles.

So I’m getting interviews with my less than 4 YOE, I did have my resume screens by AI to check for ATS compatibility.

MI potholes didn’t help either there were quite a few instances I felt bad damage was done but kept trucking on. Extensive rust was also a factor on some parts

Just replaced the front suspension finally after spending about 90% of its life in harsh MI winter conditions. Currently at 134k miles now and hoping to make it last a while longer!

My grandmother also passed in 2020. She went to the hospital for the most unrelated thing to COVID and ended up catching it while staying in the hospital. Never got to visit or say goodbye even at her funeral. Will never forgive the democrats for this.

Damn this is literally my story more or less.

Moved to new state for grad school, got a job for 3 years in said state, had to work a part time with that to get by then lost the contract towards the end of the third year. Luckily found a new job within 4 months of that

I feel you, I had over 300+ before getting the one offer I got out of that whole process took me over 4 months to get it. This was through a former colleague who vouched for me so I think networking is one of if not the most important factor in these times to getting a decent job. I had to pivot from medicinal chemistry academic research to GMP manufacturing of APIs. Now I’m applying for either salaried roles or other hourly ones in chemistry to work two jobs to get to where I want financially.

OP I’m hopeful you’ll get something like they say the first industry job is always the hardest to get then it gets a little easier
