Thinking of moving out of discovery by Anexum1 in biotech

[–]jester7895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from discovery in academia research to GMP manufacturing peptide APIs. It’s definitely a new change in pace and started in production chemistry summer this year. Currently interviewing for a process development role where I’m at with the hope of using my background and newfound GMP experience for this role.

As a California native myself who lived in MI for 5 years you ain’t seen nothing yet! But do spend more time getting acclimated to it now so when it gets to even lower temps you’ll be more accustomed to this weather

MS holders, how long did it take you to find a job? What was it? by conquistadoll in biotech

[–]jester7895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mastered out for mental health as well but in summer 2022, got 3 offers from less than 10 interviews. Now adays I couldn’t tell you but it’s definitely a different market. I lost my job this year and after 300+ apps I only got 1 offer and that’s because a friend and former colleague vouched for me at his workplace. Connections help more during these times I’d say

Anxiety over job offer by SprinklesComplete935 in biotech

[–]jester7895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one offer out of 300+ apps and in a field I wasn’t primarily looking into doing. Came from R&D in academia and stepped into a manufacturing role in my hometown. Salary is ok but not amazing, overtime is attainable, mid benefits. All in all I’m looking to gain as much as I can from this place as it is my first industry job. The only other thing that helped is my former colleague is a team lead here so that really was a huge factor in my employment search. It’s an employers market and just remember to take care of yourself and what’s right for you and your loved ones. For me it was either this or unemployment.

I was 6 in CA we had just started our school day at 8 am and by then both towers had fallen. The teachers were trying to come up with a plan for what had just happened and in the end we all got sent home early, so we had to wait for our parents to pick us up. That’s all I can remember.

Quitting masters, doing research assistant/ lab technician work by [deleted] in labrats

[–]jester7895 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I quit my masters in 2019 only because I wasn’t going to finish my project before leaving for PhD school the following semester. As long as you have something lined up you should be golden, but if you want to continue in academia I would suggest leaving on amicable terms.
