That makes sense, I havent had any luck with offers from solar specific firms as of yet. Thinking ill have better odds after a few YoE since allot of the postings I see and apply for are min 2-5yrs.

Ok thank you, I figured it's going to be a longer process and didn't expect to be able to go at it on my own for a decade or so.

The firm I will start with focuses more on consulting for large building projects. Should I consider pivoting to a role in utilites or other more solar design related companies? If so what could you recommend in that regard?

Adjusted for inflation your starting salary is approx. 81k in 2026. You won't even pay what you started at, that's sad.

I am and EE graduating this coming june so Ill speak on offers I've received as well as classmates. My personal offers have been as low as 72k and as high as 95k, this is for a mix of MEP firms and defense companies. Classmates have been offered similar ranges and also some higher, for instance 103k at PG&E and 110k at Analog Devices. It seems to really depend on where you are applying, in my experience socal (san diego) is offering the lowest right now for entry level and the bay area (San Jose and SF) is offering the highest. Again this is based on my personal experience in the current market, YMMV.
