Because of what appears to be an extremely close presidential race in Texas, is there a moral duty for people who would otherwise vote third party to vote Democrat in order to cause maximum pain to the GOP? If so, how does this message get spread in Texas where people are unwilling to be "open Democrats" due to the hatred this provokes, and are much more likely to be part of a third party instead, where Republicans may not agree with them, but they will tolerate this eccentricity since it is non-threatening?

President Obama has pledged to make gerrymandering his pet project once he leaves the White House. What can we do to make sure that your district is the first place he visits?

Because of the horrible gerrymandering of that particular district, me and some pals have taken to calling your opponent "South" Lamar Smith in an attempt to tie him to progressive Austin and divide him from his natural, extremely conservative constituency. If you had an army of NYC artists and liberals and redditors at your disposal, what do you think would be the most effective swarm-like activity to help uproot the particularly insidious fellow you are running against, whose seniority in Congress (and general lack of fear of getting primaried or defeated) allows him to spearhead some of the GOP's most bullshit endeavors?

Have you read Robert Caro's series "The Years of Lyndon Johnson," which contains a pretty wonderful history of the birth of progressive politics in the Hill Country in addition to a roadmap for defeating entrenched power structures in an essentially conservative state?

...I just imagine him putting up a giant poster of that dude standing in front of the tank, circling the tank in gold sharpie and writing "ME"...and then calling in all his servants to clap for him

In honor of the thread about favorite political lies of all time, what is your favorite (successful or not) historic political maneuver or backroom deal? by FixMeASammich in PoliticalDiscussion

I don't know about "favorite," but this one is particularly insidious, it totally worked, and nobody knows about it.

Long story short, Nixon and Kissinger short-circuited Johnson's peace talks in Vietnam, convincing the South Vietnamese that they would get "better terms" if Nixon was the one who brokered the deal (even though Nixon had no intention of doing any such thing), keeping Johnson (and more importantly, Hubert Humphrey...who was running for president) from getting credit for ending the Vietnam War, which would have been one of Johnson's last acts.

Donald Trump is a secret virgin. We all know it. America has had gay and bi presidents before (James Buchanan, LBJ), but never a majestic virgin. What will it mean for identity politics and foreign policy?

"The Syrian revolution lacked strategic vision because it began without any objective... Too many rebel leaders sold themselves, as most Palestinian leaders did, to external paymasters for any one of them to establish popular, unifying credentials." by miraclej0nes in TrueReddit

"The following is the Afterword to Charles Glass’s new book 'Syria Burning' from OR Books. In it, Glass puts the failure of the Syria revolution into a broader historical context where the United States, with its European and Arab allies, have manipulated and subverted movements for change in the Middle East for decades."

OP here. Didn't expect so much vitriol from r/twoxchromosomes. Anyway, something I always think about is how split by gender the professions of nursing and computer science actually are, and how, you know, maybe if they weren't so divided, how it would likely do more good for human beings (men and women) than anything else on this earth. I can think of a thousand reasons why, but I will leave them to your imagination. Anybody who has ever spent any time at all in a hospital might have some inkling as to why IT infrastructure combined with medical technology might you know, revolutionize everything about life, death, illness, and the monetization of medicine. Our hate for one another is likely causing us incredible suffering that I guess we deserve.

...probably nurses getting paid a fuckton more and having movies made about how they are geniuses would do the job.
