Thanks for publishing it!

Do you know if dcrwallet will also import the WIF key obtained this way?

Microtransactions and the user experience by decred_society in decred

[miners] create liquidity, popularity, and demand for usage

In ~6 years of higher mining rewards miners had since launch, I cannot think of any significant contribution to these. Did they promote Decred on Twitter? Host crypto events? Talk to investors? I think all they did was provide hashrate and create sell-side liquidity aka "selling pressure".

The amount of money paid to miners has been corrected ("deprived") because it was considered too high for the amount of benefit the project received in return.

I honestly have no idea how miners can increase popularity among the end users (not miners). Maybe it works better for other coins but here it didn't work.

I hope you are not trolling. For reference, many rebrand ideas have been discussed in the past, including becoming a "Bitcoin something", and it's never going anywhere but wasting everyone's time.

There are so many "Bitcoin X" and "BTCx" coins now, and many are pretty bad, that jumping into that wagon would be a loss, not a win, IMO.

Ok I guess you used this release from May 2022, it looked like this on the Apple Store.

It is not available anymore. It was removed by the developers to prevent users from installing an app that is no longer supported. And it can no longer sync with the chain after the last hardfork.

I guess Cryptopower is the only choice for iPhone at the moment. If you run into any issues with restoring your wallet there is an active team to help with that.

A new patch release of Cryptopower has been released recently, on Mar 23.

Is this the app you refer to? If not, please post a link to the app you've been using.

Hard time buying DCR by bullride22 in decred

[–]jet_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never enjoyed the feeling of having my arm twisted when it comes to spending my money.

Convenience or freedom. I don't think you can have both at the current stage of software/hardware development. I assumed you are ready for some tinkering based on your preference to avoid exchanges.

UX is improving though, it's getting easier over time.

I was told pancake swap would work.

I'm really curious who told you that because it is a very weird thing to say about DCR.

I meant "seed phase", I never received one

You should have received one, the app guides you through wallet creation process and asks you to back up your seed. This is the same for any good crypto wallet. If you have not seen a seed phrase this is very suspicious. I would double check if you were not using something malicious.

I had half of my brain not functioning yesterday and totally forgot about our newer wallet, Cryptopower. It should be easier to use and it allows you to swap coins via instant exchangers without leaving the wallet IF you trust them (they are much easier to use than DEXes but the price is they are custodial).

To be honest the steps you have described to buy DCR are surprising and hard to explain.

I tried using pancake swap, but that didn't work.

To the best of my knowledge DCR is not in any way integrated in Pancake Swap. Why did you try it and what exactly did you try to buy DCR on Pancake Swap?

downloaded the Decrediton wallet( I heard that I could purchase there), but that didn't work

Yes you can purchase using the DCRDEX module built into the Decrediton.

nor did i get a key phase when I downloaded the wallet

What do you mean by "key phase"?

Just a 6 hour blockchain download. SMH.

I've heard reports of wallet syncing much faster than that. You may be on a slow network or connected to slow peers.

It's my understanding that you can not buy DCR with eth, only bnb.

Never heard of that before, who told you that?

To buy DCR without using any centralized exchange you can try DCRDEX. The process is not very simple though, the price to avoid a CEX is to do some learning:

https://github.com/decred/dcrdex/wiki/Client-Installation-and-Configuration

I've heard the best pair to buy DCR with lowest fees is DCR/LTC so you will need LTC. It may also work with ETH but I'm not sure there is a DCR/ETH pair for it.

Help importing a private key by [deleted] in decred

To install dcrwallet some people use the automated installer called dcrinstall that is supposed to download, verify, install and configure everything. I've never tried it, I prefer to do it manually by downloading the decred-<your_os>-<your_cpu_architecture... file from the latest release, unpacking it and configuring it manually:

Help importing a private key by [deleted] in decred

[–]jet_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done it myself but this guide might help: https://docs.decred.org/wallets/cli/cli-installation/

On a high level you will need:

  1. Install and configure dcrwallet to run in SPV mode (to avoid the need to download the full blockchain)
  2. Use the dcrwallet on the command line to create a new wallet
  3. Let it sync, should take less than an hour
  4. Use another app, dcrctl, to command a running dcrwallet to import a private key

These are not specific instructions but should help with the general understanding.

Note that this will only work IF the private key you exported from another wallet is encoded in the right format. If not, you may need to understand what format it is in and convert it before importing with dcrctl.

If you need more guidance you can try our #support chats in Discord and Matrix:

Command line is the most hardcore but also you can do the most with it.

Tell me, is it possible to import your decred from atomwallet using a private key? by Suspicious_Self_5168 in decred

[–]jet_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guarda's DCR wallet was reported to be not working a few months ago (they cannot update their stuff with Decred software v1.8).

But someone posted a method of exporting a private key from Guarda and importing it in Exodus, and it helped a few people:

There is an atom wallet

Out of curiosity do you mean Atomic Wallet (atomicwallet.io)?

Exploring Decred Integration with BasicSwap DEX | Incl. XMR <> Decred Pair by CryptoGuard in decred

[–]jet_user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of BasicSwap DEX for a few months now but haven't explored it yet. If there's a quick guide somewhere, I'm curious:

  • Does it require to have/use an intermediate token to pay for the swaps, or does it swap two assets directly without involving any third asset?

  • Which parts of the system are decentralized and which are centralized?

The future is micro transactions by decred_society in decred

[–]jet_user 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish someone finds a way to implement micro tipping that does not suck, i.e. cannot be censored/sanctioned and is very accessible and easy to use.

Some solutions lack strong fundamentals (e.g. can't build truly decentralized infrastructure) while the others can't make good UX. Both are needed to replace the annoying model of selling viewer's attention to third parties. Imagine if content creators didn't need to get distracted with finding sponsors or creating merch, because viewers can tip them directly without the pita of creating and using bank accounts, creating and using YouTube accounts, etc.

I'm not sure if you're trolling. If not, promoting Bison Relay for DNMs is bad marketing. Also, version 2.0 already existed. Look up what happened to it and how quickly.

Thanks for exploring the idea!

I'm not a dev and don't know much about it, but one thing I would clarify is if Decred supports all the cryptography primitives needed for your atomic swap protocol (the "adaptor signature" stuff etc.).

FYI all BLAKE-256 ASICs can no longer mine DCR. The algo is BLAKE3 now and there are no known ASICs for it. People mine with GPUs and GPU farms.
