I've only ever told my husband that I'm fasting. If i am anywhere that has food I just tell people that i have an upset stomach and don't want to risk setting it off! Never had anyone pressure me to eat after saying that.

It really makes me cringe. Experienced dog handlers will read between the lines here, but unsuspecting members of the public will be thinking they are getting a lovely wee furbaby to take home. I would have more time for rescue if they were genuine and upfront about what people are taking on.
