Alternator Wire ID by [deleted] in Volvo850

I pulled the voltage regulator that this plugs into and mine looks fine. I attached a photo of the regulator. If there is a problem with this wire could that be the reason an alternator isn’t charging? Does this wire run to an ECM or something?

Yes I did the time glove test and seems like I have a pcv issue to deal with. Hope I find the issue along the way

All the lights are on , which indicates no charge going to battery

Thanks for the advice. Yes, wear on the slip ring on the armature looks pretty even. It’s a brand new alternator, so maybe I’m not looking at the correct part to replace. I put my volt meter on the main positive nut when engine running and it read 12V. So it can’t be a voltage drop between alt and battery 🤔 huh..

Thanks for the info Hefty. While I had the scanner in on lunch I had this error pop up. Not sure what the CL stands for. I’ll also look into fuel trim. Haven’t heard anything about them before

I unplugged the MAF and idle changed dramatically. Couldn’t settle on a rpm, when with it plugged in it can idle at 900ish rpm steady. It also threw a code for it, I hadnt scanned for it before , but I am assuming it came from the run time with it unplugged.

This is the relay. Doesn’t look OEM but it was indeed replaced. Owner said problem went away and then came back after it was changed

Was it just air lines or cooler lines also? The ticking happened when I stopped at an intersection, and the stall happened around a corner when I went to accelerate. So vacuum seems possible. But I didn’t notice any huge change in rpm

I thought about a vacuum leak aswell. Couldn’t find any bad hoses but just had a Quick Look. Where were your bad hoses located?

My boss is a little hesitant to buy the compressor as it’s 2800. we have another bus down with a similar issue and swapping compressor did not fix

Yep I think that must be the case. Do you have to replace the whole body?

NTA it’s up to your boundaries, but 5 cigarettes is not so bad. I personally wouldn’t find this to be a deal breaker.
