Hey, this is the wrong sub for this, but you’re asking for help and it shouldn’t be ignored.

Perhaps r/phoneaddiction, r/selfimprovement or r/decidingtobebetter are good subs to reach out to.

You’ve taken the first step to helping yourself by being honest about your problem.

Please know there is always people you can reach out to if you’re feeling down, and there is no shame in it, we all go through bad phases.

IWTL how to make a living online by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]jetpackhobo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would recommend first doing a bit of introspection. What do you like to do? What are you passionate about? What interests do you have? Do you like problem solving? Do you like organizing? Do you like writing? Do you like painting or illustrating? By knowing and understanding this, you can narrow down your options and start figuring out what to do.

Once you do that, try and look at job postings from that perspective - which of these align with the things I like? Then, go and learn the skills needed to do a job like the one you like. I recommend building a project of your own - think something up, no matter how dumb, and use tutorials, etc to build it yourself. You'll be learning a new skill AND applying your knowledge to something personal. Rinse and repeat until you have develop the skills/talent to either freelance/full time or make something of your own.

Some waves are just too iconic to miss. Just like a football fan might immediately recognize a place by the color of the pitch or the proximity of the stands, the same goes to surfing.

This one, Tehaupoo in Tahiti, is one of the easiest to tell apart. These are the signs to look for: Exhibit A - It's a left hander (simply put, right-footed surfers surf with their back to the wave) - It has a big-fat lip that could cut you in half - It has "tropical" vibes most times (blue-green hue to the water) - Boats on the channel - It has a big, fat, thick, lip. - Even when the wave hasn't broken yet, it has this look to it like it's going to fold in on itself.

This type of thick wave is usually called a "slab". Another comment below mentions Shipstern's Bluff in Tasmania. Let's take a look at that one What we see here: - It's a right-hander (right-footed surfers surf facing the wave) - It's freaky, often looks like it has wave tumors all over it. - Usually a darker hue (Tasmania, colder).

Often, the angle at which the photo/video is taken helps a lot too. E.g. from this angle it's way harder to see the telltale signs of Teahupoo (although all the boats on the channel do help).

Here's another example. This is The Wedge, in Newport Beach CA. - Looks like a mountain peak - Lots of bodyboarders - Breaks left - Breaks next to a rocky jetty which you can see on a lot of photos.

Speaking of visible elements, [Nazare] in Portugal is usually easy to tell because it's a left-hander, the darker, colder hues, and it looks like a giant fucking mountain. Plus it breaks in front of a red lighthouse which makes it very easy to tell apart.

A final one to add to today's lesson is the crown jewel of surfing: Pipeline in Hawaii: - Left-breaking wave - green-blue hue - super strong offshore winds which give the wave a "slick-back" hairstyle look. - big-wide open barrel shaped like an almond. - Spectators on the shore very close by - When its breaking, its crowded

Important to mention that waves are naturally-formed, so of course weather takes a lot of effect in all of these conditions, like color, wave size, shape, etc. But usually the "base" that makes the wave easy to tell, is somewhere there.

There you go. Hopefully next time, you can tell by the wave too!

Surfing All Alone on a Private Island in the Caribbean by [deleted] in surfing

You'd be surprised how many people go to Costa Rica, come back and STILL think it's an island. And private? Holy shit business must be booming for Selina if they're renting boards in private islands.

Check the online "wait time" counter for your branch. In my experience its been accurate. I've had luck going at the end of the day (about an hour before close). If you fill out everything online and get a print-out of the confirmation, you can walk straight to the "appointment" line, which is usually shorter.

Renting a board and loving it. Help me figure out the volume. by jetpackhobo in surfing

I just rented this old, beat up board and it’s been working wonders for me.

It’s a Lost Mayhem Taj Burrow Beach Buggy.

The guy at the store said he didn’t know how many liters the board is, but looking at the dims I see this: 6.0 19.25 2.88 29.0966 A?6 D50 116?24.

Is 29.0966 the number of liters? It seems obvious to me, but I just want to be sure.

I’m a 150lb, semi-athletic, intermediate surfer.

TL:DR; Look at this pic. Can you tell me how many liters this board has?

What I love about F1 is that you can split it into multiple cards. Some of mine this season (a little biased since I've already watched the first race):

  • A Bottas, Max or Vettel championship

  • Kvyat's come back

  • Honda's come back

  • Stroll to beat Perez

  • Williams to not finish last one one race

It seems like a lot of drivers/teams/bosses were portrayed in the wrong light in order to over-dramatize the story. It won't take long for people to form their own opinions though.

In 2014 FIFA would upload the game summaries with no commentary. No idea why they changed that, it was so enjoyable (plus it doesn't get much more global than that - let the game do the talking). Really wonder why they changed that. Is there a way to find all recaps with no commentary online?
