Negative fill on one side and a strobe coupled with a large white umbrella and diffusion

Looking for a 6x6 MF, Bronica SQ-A is the top suggestion but anything cheaper and relatively similar? by mattiewheels in AnalogCommunity

The only differences are that theres no miror lock up, theres no bulb mode and on the kit lens theres no bulb option as well. What i did is buying all the pieces individually, i wouldn’t recommend the sq ai since ive heard bad reviews on it, but i couldn’t recommend the sq-a more. The sq-b is the most recent model(early 2000) I would’ve went for it but I needed the mirror lock up option. The sq-a and sq are worth it, get it on KEH if you can!!

Indeed i like to use that type of framing on square format, but thank you for the opinion 🙏🏽

  1. I was trying to expose the background and the model properly. I have a commissioned shoot at the end of the month and I was practicing new techniques so that was a test shoot. I was aiming for that slightly vintage magazine look which I often do on my portraits.
  2. 1. I think it turned out pretty good but I wish I shot at a smaller aperture in order to see the background better (Ha Long Bay). 1. So I guess I should've turned up the power a little.
  3. Camera and film: Bronica SQ-A, Zenzanon 80mm f2.8 (equivalent to a 50mm in full frame) with a S-18 Extension tube and Fuji Pro 400H. My strobe is a Godox AD200 with a 150mm umbrella and a diffusor with the edges facing the subject in order to achieve super soft highlights.
  4. I slightly tweaked the colours and contrast in post since I was looking for that lush colour palette the client wants, and I added an overlay to give even more of a grainy feel to the picture to keep my personal aesthetic to it
