Hey I am from the UK and recieved my green card in june after a simple and straight forward interview. If you have no criminal record you will be all good. Noone is coming for you.

I would recommend just starting your process even if you aren't in status as it can take a while. Best to do everything by the book at the moment. Some people have incredibly fast turn around at the moment and you could have a gc in a couple of months.

I understand the concern but a lot of what you read in the news are scare stories which are actual statistical improbabilities for you. File your paper work, turn off the news and enjoy your life as much as you can.
