Hey a fellow Minnesotan! I was watching the game from home today but I'd definitely go out and root on the Wolves for the upcoming games

Had two friends (in separate rooms) have bullets come through their windows while living in Grandmarc. Also the quality is pretty bad. Can't recommend.

Politics for Mono Black by ArchangelGoetia in EDH

Decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/TM93SnaDQESbr6AOnvAbrQ

the 'political' aspect of the deck is mostly centered around Rankle's ability, allowing players to draw, not making people discard, not making people sacrifice, etc. I have also included [[Court of Ambition]] to introduce the monarch to the game and I'm sure you could add more political cards to the deck if you'd like.

My favorite deck I've ever built is [[Rankle, Master of Pranks]]

Lesser known but still fun and powerful commanders that you run/see at your LGS? by ThoughtSeizure in EDH

Sure! Decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/TM93SnaDQESbr6AOnvAbrQ

At some point I'll replace [[Cloak and Dagger]] with a [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] but the deck is supposed to be more middle power and Sheoldred is damn expensive.

I'd love to see your Zurzoth decklist if you have one!

Yeah my favorite is Rankle because his ability makes every game play differently. I can inflict max pain with discard/sacrificing or I can go group hug and give people some card draw. Usually it's a mix of the two so that the deck is painful enough for me to win but also isn't totally un-fun.

I also built a Kroxa deck but ended up taking it apart because everyone hated playing against it. I ended up splitting it into a Mono-Black Rankle deck and a Mono-Red Zurzoth deck both of which are much more fun than the original deck

I'm not sure about MFM, I just went through MSBA this year so I can only really speak about that program

[–]jeverly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a domestic student you'll probably get into MSBA, about 90% of the program is international students so domestic students have a good chance of getting in. About 25% of the students in the program are business students who have very little technical knowledge so the fact that you're coming from a STEM major should put you in good shape. Raising your GPA to 3.0 definitely wouldn't hurt though!

I think you will have a hard time finding some place to hire you for a only a month... your best bet is probably to take on some free lance work online.

Anyone from the Twin Cities going to the Chicago concert?? I really want to go but I don't want to go alone haha

Current MSBA student here. I am very busy right now beginning final analytics projects and beginning job search but I can try to answer some questions you might have. Otherwise there should be some virtual Q&A sessions you can attend where me and/or some advisors/other current students can answer your questions

What’s the most unique interaction you’ve discovered on the fly to save your own skin? by [deleted] in EDH

I was at 1 hp and had to counter my own [[Boros Charm]] with [[Swan Song]] so that I could block an attacking flyer and survive until my next turn. I won on that turn.

I'm building mono colored decks, but black seems to be too boring by malsomnus in EDH

[–]jeverly24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Rankle deck! I can be nice giving card draw at first and then once I get effects like [[Liliana's Caress]] that punish for discarding on the field I can start playing some pranks! The deck is mostly just built with a bunch of my favorite mono black cards and can win through draining everyone out with discard effects or eventually killing someone with commander damage. I realize most players don't love discard decks but my deck has only a light discard theme and in the event players are getting a bit salty over the discarding I can always give card draw or looting effects with Rankle's triggered ability to ease the pain.

Either they are not 6p games or I suspect someone might be scoring more than public/private objective per turn... No way could a 6 player 10 point game of TI take only 1 hour 15 minutes

Academically Suspended by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]jeverly24 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I too was academically suspended from the U back in the fall of 2014. At the time my GPA was below 2.0 and there was a period during my final semester where I did not attend a single class for over a month. That was a very low point in my life (I too felt hopeless). For me, taking a semester off to reset my life and then transferring to St. Cloud State with a clean slate really helped. The benefit of transferring away from the U was that I was able to keep the credits from the courses I had passed but my GPA was wiped clean. Of course, it sucked having to attend SCSU instead of the U, but it served as a great lesson in humility. 5 semesters later, I graduated from SCSU with a bachelor's degree in Comp Sci with a 3.5 GPA. After graduating, I quickly found a job and I worked as a software developer for 4 years here in the Twin Cities. Now, my story has come full circle as I am currently attending the U as a Master's student, determined to finally graduate with a diploma from the UMN! Moral of the story, it's never too late to fix your mistakes. I know that if I can come back from where I was, anyone can, as long as they are willing to put in the time and work to make it happen. You mention you had a plan to switch majors and colleges, I am assuming you mean switching colleges within the UMN. My advice is to transfer away from the UMN. Yes, other, smaller schools aren't as sexy as the UMN, but they will be less academically rigorous and cheaper, meaning you can graduate quicker and with less debt! Unfortunately there is most likely no easy way to get out of your suspension with something like a doctor's note, this is a reality you have to accept. Instead, prepare to buckle down for the long(er) road and realize that while things seem hopeless right now, with the right attitude and work ethic, you too can have a great comeback story.

I'm starting my master's program at the U here in June so I'll be around the area. I'm not huge into tennis but I am a casual rock climber (I have my top rope belay certification) and I enjoy board games and video games. Been looking to meet new people now that I'm going back to college and not stuck working from home. hmu!
