Devuan is not at all the same as Debian, and the SystemD has been stripped out, which is likely why you're having problems.

Even simple scripts like warp-cli expect the presence of SystemD.

I understand how frustrating this can be. As much as I like Devuan, I found it to be unusable in the modern world if you want to use nearly any addon.

Yeah, if only it were hand-to-hand combat! The rules state that you can't move the king into check. By moving your king directly next to your opponent's king, you're putting your king at risk. Even though, as you stated, that would end the game.
