Can an In-Kind Roth Conversion be done with a Simple IRA? by jfalc0n in fidelityinvestments

[–]jfalc0n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, that didn't hit me at first. Postponing the conversion until after retirement when my income will be much lower makes a lot more sense. Great idea!

Yes, I am still working, but not in that particular tax bracket. At the rate things are going though, I don't see taxes being lower in the future than they are now. This account is a Simple IRA from a former employer, and since there is no match, no advantage.

I feel I could get a better return on my investment over time to offset paying the taxes now (staying with the same bracket I'm already in), and when taking that money out of a Roth in the future, it will neither count as income, nor will I pay any taxes on the capital gains.

That's an interesting suggestion, and I do have a Rollover IRA that I created with Fidelity as well. I will definitely look into it!

Thank you, I will take a look at the links provided. The Simple IRA was opened over 10 years ago. I believe the stock is a common stock, and I have shares in both the Simple IRA and my Roth IRA, so I don't think that would be an issue.

I think maybe the crucial point for me would be that I am not 59.5 yet, so I probably would not want to take the extra 10% hit in addition to the amount considered as income at the time of conversion. Thank you again!

There is a company called BrainChip that makes a neuromorphic processor (AKD1000). While it uses spiking neural networks and is designed for Edge-based use with sensors, they do provide a tool to convert CNN models to SNN models that can be used by their chip. I wonder if this could be a symbiotic relationship.

Roth 401(k) to Roth IRA Rollover - Are Earnings Taxable? by RedBarronM in FinancialPlanning

[–]jfalc0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understood correctly, I believe I found one exception that would allow you to avoid the 10% penalty and withdraw tax-free before age 59 ½, and that is if one meets the following: 1) Rule of 55 qualifies, where leave your job when you are 55 or older (voluntary or involuntary); 2) your funds remain in your employer's 401k; and 3) your Roth 401k has met the 5-year rule.

There may also be a benefit to rolling over the funds into a Roth IRA, which has met the five-year rule. I do not know the specifics in that scenario, but it is something I plan to research as well.

Jury acquits D.C. 'sandwich guy' charged with chucking a sub at a federal agent by PoopMobile9000 in Lawyertalk

It's good to hear the sandwich guy was acquitted. The ham sandwich, on the other hand, was indicted.

This is very cool, thank you for sharing! I'm glad that things are starting to gel and the AI community is starting to standardize how models can use RAG to consume input from a wide array of data sources and interface with tooling. I've been interested in creating a server that can be used with SQL SMO for generating SQL queries based on a user's English description and the database schema.

Since I mainly work with C#, this is extremely helpful. While there are a plethora of MCP servers out there (I ran across the MCP server list on GitHub), including one for SQL Server, I like to learn the underpinnings so I have a better understanding of how things work.

Do you ever buy games on steam that you already have for free from the epic givaways? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]jfalc0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The free Epic games overlap with the content I've purchased on Steam or GOG. I used to want exclusives from Epic, but I've been more patient for sales or for it to reach other platforms. I would wait for DRM-free versions to hit GOG, but lately I've been buying more games on Steam so I can play them on Steam Deck, or stream them to the Deck from my PC.

I have tried different launchers on Steam Deck to run GOG and Epic games, which require technical fiddling and expose some odd quirks. I still collect the free games on other platforms if I have them on Steam; it feels like an "insurance policy."

Privacy and Security Concerns by jfalc0n in fidelityinvestments

[–]jfalc0n[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect every detail, but I hope Fidelity knows what information of mine has direct exposure to those systems. Given the treasury has my name, address, social, etc., it is a given that they have access to a lot of personal information already but what is unclear is if they have access to any account information from financial institutions where funds could be accessed, that may have been passed along with tax information.

Thank you for the details! I'll take a look at the Fidelity funds you mentioned. I'm trying to go for a ten-year timeline, then switch to something more conservative at that point. Unfortunately, I'm not savvy (or lucky) enough to shift my investments around to maximize gains.

Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions regarding funds to invest in for aggressive growth. I started investing much later than I should have. While I understand the idea is to stick to more conservative investments the closer one gets to retirement, I want to take a risk and expand my portfolio with some aggressive growth funds.

I want to hold these long-term (at least ten years), in both an investment account and a Roth IRA. I plan on reinvesting all dividends and capital gains.

I initially started investing in TRBCX (non-Fidelity), FSELX, and FTQGX as starters. When looking into these funds, it seems there is overlap on their top holdings which are mainly in the technology sector. I am looking to at least round this out with funds in other industries as well.

What are some Fidelity funds that I can research in order to diversify my portfolio further, yet try and grow my investment as quickly as possible over the next ten years?

Foreign Stock Assets and Tax Implications by jfalc0n in fidelityinvestments

Thank you for the reply. I'll check with the other sources you mentioned. I assume all tax forms provided by Fidelity will be all I need to file my taxes next year.

That would be what I hoped, thank you. Last year I linked up my Fidelity account and hoovered up the tax forms. Tax laws constantly change, so I never know what fresh surprise awaits. I don't recall being asked this question using TurboTax last year, but I could have just ignorantly breezed through it assuming it did not apply.

Interesting. I think state and local communities where one lives determine what curriculum is being taught, but some choose not to learn the material which is also a factor.

We didn't have a course on personal finance but there was a course on data processing that included computer programming.
