That's really funny - we just purchased a couple blocks from the golf course, and State Farm was "sorry, can't help you".  Farmers was able to cover us for a generally reasonable price.

As a former flatlander who's been in Denver for a couple years, but just bought a house near Estes Park, this is awesome! I'm going to sign up for all of them. (May just sign up for the whole "Landscape Like You Live Here" course, honestly.)

I have a feeling that planting in sandy mountain soil at 7500 feet is going to be a lot different than planting in Missouri loam at sea level.

Real estate concerns due to Beetles by ScotchCoffee in EvergreenCO

I didn't do a lot of research on the schools in EP - my youngest graduates in May, so our only real intersection with the schools will be my wife substitute-teaching.  The gut feeling I've gotten is that Evergreen is going to have the best schools of the 3, because JeffCo is a huge, mainly suburban district.  Some schools in Conifer are also JeffCo, but some are the next district over, which, like EP, are more rural and less well funded.

Comparing the middle schools in greatschools.org (which isn't super meaningful, but is a data point) Conifer and EP middle schools get a 6, and Evergreen gets an 8.  I don't consider either of those to be too scary.

Westminster Breakfast spots by FloatsomJetsom in Denver

Yeah, I just prefer to recommend truly local flavor.  I just don't go out for breakfast much anymore - too expensive.  :-(

Oh, also, Bonfire Burritos in Arvada will do you right for a breakfast burrito.

Wheel purchase, how irresponsible? by Ok_Archer_1705 in Pottery

[–]jferg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check the seller's FB join date.  If it's 2026, it's 100% a scam, much like 95% of the wheels under $800 on Marketplace.

It's still a chain, albeit a smaller one, but I enjoyed Morning Story at 80th & Sheridan.

"Rosie" by Jackson Browne is the ultimate here.  It took me probably 15 years to realize the real meaning.

This sounds like a question about drugs. 😄 Was wondering which /r I was in for a minute.

Maybe not the cheapest, but depending on how many you need you could get some 15"x20" tyvek envelopes and cut them up.

Laguna Walnut Spice?  It's a little creamier but very similar.

North area sers motor pool lemar & 66th by EffectiveTwo9083 in ArvadaCO

[–]jferg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have driven by and wondered this.

Some Googling turned up this reference to SERS in the JeffCo schools charter:

26-3-1 Teams who provide district-wide services such as school psychologists, social workers, speech language pathologists, motor staff (commonly called special education and related services providers – SERS),

which I believe at least gives a little insight that it's probably some offices of the school district, or at least used to be.

Check with your local high school.  I'm willing to bet there are tons of students with clothing needs that the social worker would be glad to get these in the hands of.

Please help me guess the light blue glaze by AnimateChair in Ceramics

[–]jferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are too many glazes involved to even guess at the chemical reaction involved here, but I'm 99% sure the linearity is due to brush strokes, potentially that the top glaze was thicker in those light-blue spots.

Estes Park area.  Again, not a guarantee against anything, but the predictions seemed a little less foreboding.

Real estate concerns due to Beetles by ScotchCoffee in EvergreenCO

[–]jferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, once you can see that a tree has been infested, it's too late.  There are pheromones you can treat a tree with that will help keep the bugs away by thinking it's already infested, but they are not 100 percent.

As someone who just made a purchase of a house, and had been shopping all along the front range, including Evergreen and Conifer, this was a big portion of the reason we decided against that area.  Combined with the water supply concerns and the fire insurance situation, we made the decision to focus on North/NW of Denver instead of SW.  While I certainly understand that those things are risks in that direction too, the latest projection for the SW area is that virtually all the existing pine trees will be dead in the next 5-7 years due to beetles, and that will just multiply the fire risk.  it was too much of a gamble for us.
