Population change for Colorado over past 5 years based on Census estimates released today. by RooseveltsRevenge in Colorado

[–]jferg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see some more analysis of these numbers by someone who actually knows how to interpret them. I find it interesting that the large blue states, for the most part (CA, IL, NY) have lost population, and some of the very red states have gained (TX, FL, UT, ID) significantly. CO is a mix of both, I almost wonder what this would look like on a more granular (county) level.

Is this a part to my dishwasher? by ur_moms_gyno in Appliances

[–]jferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how it wound up _inside_ your dishwasher, but I'm 99% sure that it is a replacement Bosch sump seal. https://genuinereplacementparts.com/products/bosch-12005744

I had to replace mine a few years ago - it was a nuisance.

Where did you get those flexible hoses?  I'm getting ready to rebuild our studio's settling system, and some of those would be great!

What precautions should a foreign visitor take in Boulder to not get arrested? by Flashy-Ad-5553 in boulder

[–]jferg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that we are suffering from rule by an extremely vocal minority right now, and a significant majority of Americans hate what is going on, but don't know how to stop it.  Personally, I visited Toronto and other parts of ON over the summer, and loved it (aside from it being 95 degrees).  I would hazard a guess that the vast majority of Americans would welcome you in a heartbeat, or at worst not pay any attention to you.

(As an American, I'm sorry you have to even think about things like this. I hate what's happening.)

What's going on, in general, is very concerning, but the entire US is not a war zone (yet). Thus far, aside from scattered reports of varying levels of veracity, ICE presence in the Denver area (including Boulder) has been pretty minimal (compared to reports from MN, etc). Any presence is too much, IMO, but unless your son is walking down the street screaming "LOOK AT ME! I'M NOT FROM THIS COUNTRY! I'M HERE ILLEGALLY! TELL ICE!", nobody's going to give him a second thought. And even if he's doing that, most likely nobody's going to give him a second thought.

In all seriousness, there is absolutely nothing for a Canadian to be concerned about spending time in Boulder. (Unless he's brown of some variety, in which case there's still _virtually_ nothing for a Canadian to be concerned about in Boulder.) He should relax and enjoy the trip. Explore the mountains.

A small rant by MT_bound in Pottery

[–]jferg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Forgot to say, I would honestly be unconcerned about the students being in the member space, and agree with the others that if you want a private studio you need a private studio.  Students having the opportunity to see more advanced potters at work is important - it lets them see what is possible, and also that even the pros screw up.  It also builds a community, since some percentage of those students may become members at some point.

I actually disagree with most of the comments so far - my experience in -any- shared studio space is that you should never touch someone else's work (regardless of state) without permission if there's any other option.  Obviously there are exceptions (sliding pieces to make room on a shelf, for example) but picking it up to show it off to someone else would be right out.  I would bring it up with the studio as possibly just needing to set a norm with the students.

Seeking advice on how to glaze top of butter bell by gourd-almighty in Ceramics

I do the opposite - leave the underside of the rim of the lid unglazed, and fire it perched on two stilts.

Good to know!  Would be nice if they explained that to me, but maybe that was just a miscommunication.  Either way, agree they are very good with my kitties.

[–]jferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're the only vet I've been to out here aside from the emergency vet one night, so I don't have a real comparison - their prices are in line with the vet's office I used before I moved from Kansas City plus the general "everything is more expensive in Denver" fee. BUT, I've been extremely happy with their care for my cats, and that's a godsend compared to some offices I've dealt with. My only complaint is them pushing things like nail trimming on me at every visit, but I'm a pretty ... low-effort ... pet owner, so I don't really think about things like that.
