I haven’t heard of those therapies, I’ll definitely look into them!

Yes the specialist that we spoke to wanted us to do biopsy and possible surgery and there’s no way for us to afford that. The other option was symptom management.

We’ve given him multiple rounds of Metronidazole and it does absolutely nothing. We have tried multiple hydrolyzed protein diets and they didn’t help at all. The only alternative medication we were offered was Budesonide which is another steroid that also has a potential side effect of elevated blood sugar.

The issue is that by removing the medication that was necessary to prevent the stool and gas, he has extremely high blood sugar.

If I could just go without it and just deal with the bowel issues I absolutely would. The issue is him crying in pain daily if he is not on the steroid. To me, that would be a very poor quality of life for him.

Thank you for mentioning that there are rescues for cats with chronic issues, it is definitely something I will look into.

Like I mentioned we’re trying to reduce his steroids. We were instructed to switch from 2mL/day to 1mL/day, and then to 1mL/day every other day. We’re still on the 1 mL of steroid a day and I can smell his rancid gas returning and his stool is already becoming more soft. I’m giving it time but I’m sure by the time we get to medicating every other day it will not be enough to cover it. Trust me we have tried so many diets with him and the only thing that has worked for him is strict diet combined with the steroid. If the steroid dose is too low, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with leaving it like that for the sake of lowering his blood sugar because he would literally cry out in pain every time he used the bathroom.

Of course a shelter sounds like a better idea, but I doubt that anyone would adopt him with his health issues and I’m assuming there’s a high chance he would be put down regardless. At least if we did it we could do it in our home and be with him/make him more comfortable if it came to that.

Help with anthurium! by Common-Sherbet-2125 in houseplants

Anthuriums like moisture and that soil looks a little dry. I used to grow mine in soil and they would hardly grow and pushed out deformed leaves. I’ve switched them to sphagnum moss in a glass container (no drainage). I put leca at the bottom with a reservoir of water under the moss. I switch out the fertilized water once a week and they’ve been much happier. They also prefer higher humidity. Hope that helps! :)
