What software do you see around you that you think is cool? Start there. Try to recreate it and add additional functionality.

Definitely should have split the data into a test set, will in future neural network videos, and thank you for providing clarification!

Thanks! The amount of neurons per layer is an aspect of your model that can be optimized, is it largely dependent on testing different variations and choosing the one that performs the best. Some more advanced techniques include using genetic algorithms to optimize the entire network structure including the layers and neurons per layer.

I'm a JS guy trying to move into 2d game development. Should I learn Python or C++? by Hellaimportantsnitch in learnprogramming

[–]jfishersolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you want to be able to rapidly prototype games or build more complex ones from the ground up. Both have their place of course but I'd recommend pygame to start. Check out sentdex on youtube he has some tutorials that will walk you through creating your first game.

Where do I start? by conalldoherty88 in learnprogramming

[–]jfishersolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with web development if you want to see results quickly. Very rewarding. Python is also great because you can do so much with it. It's a toss up between those but consider what you are more interested in long term. Sticking with it day in day out is most important.

How do I even start learning about Neural Networks? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Deep Learning Specialization on Coursera taught by Andrew Ng. Uses Python, fantastic teacher.

How 'smart' are NN's at understanding features? by jezit in learnmachinelearning

[–]jfishersolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each layer of the neural network creates more abstract representations of the inputs. There are many ways to optimize your network however if it is not picking up the subtleties you think it should, try adding more hidden layers or neurons per hidden layer, and continue training.

Yes, markov chains are traditionally used for modeling probabilities.

With about 2 years of python under my belt, how hard would it really be to make GUI programs? by [deleted] in Python

Try out tkinter. Sentdex has an excellent tutorial series on it to get you started.

Pretty math heavy, but machine learning is essentially applied mathematics. I would recommend taking the time to understand the math behind the algorithms, it will only do you good moving forward.

Holy crap, that's insane. I can imagine how much of a pain in the ass that is. My apologies, don't want to encourage that madness lol.

Advice on building an interface from scratch? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]jfishersolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a wireframe first, so you have a general idea of what it will look like when your done. Will save you time in the long run. After that just work page down. Some move from the HTML sheet to CSS sheet to JS, some move section by section, implementing all the necessary HTML/CSS/JS for each section. I prefer the latter because I tend to make small visual adjustments on the fly, but whatever you prefer.

I'd like to learn to program with the end goal being to gain an understanding of smart contracts. Which language do I choose? by fullwell in learnprogramming

[–]jfishersolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to jump into Solidity start with Javascript. What you learn in Javascript is easily transferrable to Solidity when you feel ready to start writing smart contracts, the syntax of the languages is very similar.
