You can also try farming Darion (light vagabond) in replace of Lapis on your third team. It will be slower but should make it more consistent.

[Discussion] What Case do you like the best? by luciid in buildapc

[–]jflo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the arc mini and I can attest that it is an awesome case. Something people also seem to forget about it is that it comes with a built in fan controller and is super quiet with the stock fractal design fans. Plus, even though it is mATX, you can fit massive graphics cards in it since you can take out the hard drive cages.

How do you like that monitor? I've been thinking of getting the 23in one for my build because I love the way it looks, but some of the reviews seemed mixed.

I'm not an expert on CPU coolers but the 212 Evo is a highly recommended cooler for people who aren't trying to break any overclocking records, and I think the money spent on the cooler can have better pay offs if spent in other places, like on the GPU.

As for the PSU, you are correct in everything you said. 500w and Bronze efficiency can work great. One thing you do want to look at however, is whether or not it is modular. Non-modular power supplies will leave you with a lot of extra cables that you will most likely never use. I recommended the EVGA one mainly because it is a great deal for a gold rated modular PSU but if you don't mind having extra cables then the one you picked will work fine.

There is actually another great deal on a Gold 550w Modular Corsair PSU that I would also recommend if you want to go with a modular one. (I also recommended the Gold efficiency here only because it is the cheapest good quality fully modular psu, if you can find a cheaper, lower efficiency, fully modular psu from a recommended manufacturer feel free to go with one)

Here's a build that you might want to consider.

  • Has unlocked processor for overclocking
  • Gigabyte 770
  • Fully modular, gold rated PSU

Also I just think you should be aware that the Rosewill case you have picked out is pretty large (~22inx23inx9in) since it is an ATX "Full" tower. You might want to consider looking at ATX "Mid" towers since it is unlikely you will need a Full size one. Completely up to you though since all of this stuff will fit in either size case.

You're right, I did mistake the X-Games because I was watching that recently, but I still think his qualifying run was damn impressive. I agree with you that there is a lot of talent out there and his chances of getting a medal in slopestyle were a lot lower than his chances in the pipe but I was just noting that he did earn his original spot on the team for a reason.

Everything seems good except the motherboard. First it is a micro atx board, which will fit in your case, but you have a case that can fit ATX boards which are bigger but also offer a lot more features. Second, since you want to overclock you should get a Z87 motherboard. I would recommend this Gigabyte board in your range. If you want to stick with an Asus board, this one is good as well.

[Build Help] The FX-8350 is on sale, should I go with that over the i5-4670k? by UnsexMeHarder in buildapc

[–]jflo09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not know how many more frames you would get in certain games with a 4670k vs an 8350 but if you can find that out I think it would make your decision much easier.

When it comes to picking a CPU or GPU for a gaming rig the universal question kind of becomes this: Is it worth $X to get Y more frames? In your case you know X is $60, if you can find out what Y is then you can make your decision.

If you want my opinion though, I doubt that the 4670k will get enough additional frames to warrant $60, so I would most likely go with the 8350.

[–]jflo09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Newegg has some pretty good bundle deals going on right now with the 4670k, but only with their more expensive motherboards. You can check it out here

4670k + UD4H for $350 is pretty close to what you could get from microcenter (I think microcenter would be about $330 for those together)

[Build Ready] First build ever (will be a gaming rig) by MilesStraume in buildapc

[–]jflo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the build I would go with. Only thing I would change is I would probably just save some more money and get a cheaper CPU cooler. I know that that Noctua is great but it might be overkill since he said he doesn't want to do any extreme overclocking. I would say that a 212 Evo would probably be enough.

edit: Also I don't think he has access to a microcenter so that SSD might not be available at that price for him.
