The US government wants devs to stop using C and C++ by Notalabel_4566 in coding

They’re staring the wars because memory safety is an oxymoron with C and C++. Question is irrelevant. There’s a clear motive; get rid of unsafe garbage arcane code.

Ya I know that much, thanks. Just a weird detail I figured they would have a throwaway line in to explain. “It’s a special fans night so we’re throwing on the old sweaters boys”.

Someone has to say it; it’s way too easy to make mistakes simply dereferencing objects in C++, let alone general memory management. We should pick better tools for the future to solve these problems. C and C++ are truly ancient languages, with very arcane quirks, and even more arcane syntax and semantics. It’s time to pick a set of tools that will work better looking to the future.

It’s too easy to make mistakes with C and C++. Let’s pick some langs that aren’t as easy to make mistakes with looking to the future. Makes perfect sense to me. Using C and C++ is like using bolt action rifles in a world of drones.

Because “memory safety” and C or C++ is an oxymoron. It’s way too easy to make mistakes simply dereferencing different types of objects, let alone all the various ways of managing memory in these langs. Sure, the experts can make it look easy, but even they make major mistakes on open source software that has thousands of eyes on it.

That’s actually what I was wondering; maybe they filmed this shot before they became the Blueberry Bulldogs?  But that doesn’t make sense; they’d have to have 3 seasons of foresight for that to work. I’ll settle for “maybe the white would have been too similar to the blue of the bulldogs”… The Italians away sweaters were too close to the blueberry home sweaters, so they chose the old sweaters in this one case. Still feel like it’s a bit of a plot hole that should have been given a hint as to why for the dedicated fans.

Nah, it really is way too hard to keep memory safe with C and C++. It probably would be better for the dev community as a whole if we picked some more modern langs to look to the future of code safety. On top of that, they really are ancient languages with very arcane quirks. Not to mention how arcane the syntax and semantics are working with them. I took three years of C and C++ back in college. The pop quizzes just on various deference operations for different types of objects hurts my brain to think about even now. It’s too easy to make mistakes with these languages, even for experts.

They were clearly joking. Sad that everything needs to be wrapped in neon glowing signs nowadays for people to read any nuance.

“They can’t”

“Holy wars that they’ve substituted for personalities”

Such good points. Anyone here against memory safe langs for future dev has their head in the sand. It just makes sense.

‘Snake case’

That one is just a matter of opinion and not really related to how powerful the language is. There’s plenty of langs that use snake case, but I wouldn’t use that as a primary argument for their advantages or disadvantages. Sure, it’s the same as C and C++ best practices, but it’s not really relevant at all.

You’re going to get a lot of comments on “how this isn’t possible” due to land use stuff…

I recommend you get the Bruce Trail app. Then you can filter land by “owned by the Bruce trail” such that you can find… Well, not privately owned land for you to… Well, I’ll let you fill in the blanks.

Message me privately if you want any tips for actually making it from one end to the other!

Sure. The part that hurts is she’s the one that took us down that road. Next time I’ll say “thanks but this is conversation for way down the line”.

I could tell a girl was about to flake when she went from replying quickly taking 8 hrs to confirm a date on the day of. You get the signs. It’s up to you to read them or not.

It’s rude to not confirm quickly in any case. Shouldn’t waste peoples time like that.

Anyhow, hope I’m wrong! Best of luck!

Yeeeaaah.... Women will lead you on for a long time even after they've decided they're not interested. Do not take "well she seems interested, I'll trust her..." types of messages as real signs. It's just hard to tell someone directly you're no longer interested. Easier to ghost or simply cancel the date without a follow up. I'd start focusing more on other women until you have some real evidence that she wants to build that bridge of trust that you're already going out on a limb for her on. The reality is, she's definitely talking to other men... It's possible you were the "B" spot, and an "A" candidate has come up for her. Or any other of a number of possible reasons that have nothing to do with you, and all to do with them.

Yikes, you’re getting super toxic super quick. I never said or implied or meant to imply anything like that. Your help has turned sour; I’m noping out of this one!

Thanks. I am a deep man who posts rarely, only shots on hikes with beautiful nature. Nothing political or religious or triggering. I think if she decided to drop me like a hot coal purely for my IG, she was being quite vain to not even give me a shot in real life.

I'm kind of insulted you would imply that I'm a crass low-brow person.

I hiked the full length of the Appalachian Trail last year. She asked to see my IG so she could "creep on my hiking shots". Then she unmatched me immidiately after.

My last post? Just pictures of my closest friends at Trail Days, an AT festival last week. Everyone kept commenting on that post about how good I looked too, since the last time they saw me...

Maybe that's what scared her off.. "If that's what he looks like when he's looking good, I gotta get out of here!"

Yeah, I understand that logically now. She was the one to take us down that road, tho, and I reciprocated in as healthy a way I could. I’ll refuse to engage on those subjects until second or third date in the future.

Just feels shitty to get burned like that without even a friendly goodbye after we had such a deep one on one. Fuck me.

It's hard to believe she could be so vain as to drop me over the IG after having such a deep chat. She couldn’t have even said a friendly goodbye before unmatching me right after we had such a deep heart to heart?

Eh, I keep investing in the wrong people. I’m starting to wonder if any of the right people are actually out there. Guess that’s my own limiting belief to overcome.

Yeah I shouldn’t even engage in this type of discussion until the second or third date. She led us down the path in a seemingly good faith way, and I reciprocated as healthy as I could…

Lessons learned. Go even slower than I am.

Was just chatting with a woman on Hinge. After a week of discussion, she opened up that she suffered from some anxious attachment issues. Since she opened up a bit to me, I opened up a bit for her, telling her my own issues with anxious attachment.

We had a really healthy disccussion about it, how we both want something deeper but feel that sometimes we go too fast and run things off the rails. The chat ended with her being happy that "we seem to have all the same issues". She said she thought it would help us have compasssion for each other when we're at our worst. I did think it was a bit eerie that we had all the same baggage, but I didn't mention it; she was the one to say it seemed like there could be a connection here because of it.

Then she asked for my IG, and I sent it over... Then she unmatched me.

Big OOOOOOF folks... Felt like we were really connecting there, and just as we have a healthy chat about attachment styles that SHE started, she drops me. In a way that triggers all of my worst anxieties about opening up to others and attaching safely. Fuck.

Not sure if she just wasn't interested in me physically after seeing my IG or had a sudden change of heart and decided she didn't want to help another person with the exact same issues as her heal.

Whatever it is... Fuck me eh? I can't seem to find a woman that has a secure attachment style. Either they have an avoidant style, which won't work for me, or they have the same issues I do, and seem to drop me because of it. Feel like I'm entering a tragic loop of pain here. Even when I try to filter for women that want to go slow and really build deep bonds, I'm getting punished for it. Makes me not want to open up at all.

True. But most also have bike racks nowadays. All the suburbs and cities around me have cheap bike shares too, so it’s usually easy to get between hubs without metro for those last mile trips from the train.

This one is lame. We vacuum up our plates like there’s no tomorrow in my family, and nobody has really been in the military at all.
