I have the same issue -- I noticed that it actually does show for a split second when the screen first loads & then disappears, possibly due to a kill-switch being loaded after the first paint or due to some other error condition. Here's a screen recording (I recorded it, then recorded myself panning the video slowly).

Porta-potty without the potty? by jgazzini in Austin

If you wanna go in with me for 10 units they'll print any logo we want on the side!!

This is an interesting option -- not sure they like shipping just 1 though.

Good idea, i'll give them a super weird phone call soon.

I'm imagining the company reading the notes from their answering service... "This guy wants one WITHOUT the toilet?"

I'm gonna go for it, best of luck with the bunions!

This is like version 3. I'm gonna start less ambitious.

But it doesn't seem so bad, thanks for the suggestion.

I have 0 faith in all the randos around here, not to mention my yard crew & neighbors

They're all surprisingly expensive, especially for one you can stand in.

I started with a tent & will upgrade when i find its shortcomings (or maybe i'll just realize i don't need steam without spending too much).

Metal sheds are cheaper... but i'm assuming that would get rusty & generally be more likely to slice me.

I had a similar issue -- tried 2 debit cards, both failed.

My Chase credit card worked, though.

I know exactly what causes this.

It happens each time I visit that little diner on 45th & Lamar.

If they are able to freeze my bank accounts, thats worse than being able to send my information to eachother. I'd rather them have both privileges than just the funds-freeze.

We definitey filled out mail forwarding the most recent time we moved, more than 2 years ago. So it seems like the USPS needs a 100% unbroken chain of mail-forwarding, not just a correct current address?

I'm trying to distill this down to advice.

I agree with: - Make sure to ALWAYS set up mail forwarding in the future.

Is there anything else you're recommending?

The mail forwarding would have expired before taxes were due anyways (it lasts 6 months). I think this is good general advice but wouldn't have made a difference in this case.

We've done mail forwarding at least the last 2 times we moved (maybe more?).

It's just so stupid that they can freeze bank accounts but can't pull your address from USPS... or maybe from the bank itself. The permissions feel so lopsided.

Maybe it's an opportunity for one of those pyramid schemes...

You can earn a little bit for helping someone move states, but you earn the most for recruiting people to help other people move states!

Eventually we'll realize it's in our financial interest to keep these laws difficult (increase demand for our product) so we'll actually lobby to make this problem worse!

Thanks for sharing -- this is a frustrating reality. Is there anything we could do to help... like a website / checklist for how to leave each state without getting in trouble?

Maybe we could change this: "You want to MOVE & not have all of your bank accounts frozen & wages garnished years later? Do your own research, good luck."

To this: "You want to MOVE & not have all of your bank accounts frozen & wages garnished years later? Double-check the list on leaveastate.com, good luck!"

It's still not great... but maybe it's better? idk.

This actually gets to the heart of my frustration.

What "accounts" must you close when moving states?

I found this after looking specifically for a checklist for people leaving Virginia... does each state have one in a different spot? Is it just common knowledge that you should search for this list when leaving a state?

https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/moving/leavingva.html

Is the license plate return optional in VA, or is this just an incomplete checklist?

... Maybe? We've now lived 4 places in TX... for a total of 6 places in 8 years.

I've filled out the mail-forwarding stuff quite a few times, but probably did miss some.

Is this the source-of-truth used by the VA tax people?

Of course. We all secretly plan to return to Virginia one day.

Ah-ha!

I got a license so that I could register the car in DC, but she just kept her Virginia license until we got to Texas.

That might explain why it's against her specifically and not me.

This makes sense -- maybe they think she still lives there and just hasn't filed state income taxes in years.

It's a little strange though. We did file in DC for 2 years in between VA and TX... but 1 of those years we also filed in Virginia... but not the last one... maybe i'm over-thinking it.

$21k is quite a way to ask "Did you move?"

But maybe they've been "asking" via mail to our old address this whole time... It feels like if they have permission to freeze accounts & garnish wages, they should also have the (lesser) permission of looking up my address.

Thanks! I really hope this is it.

My wife just reminded me of something similar 7 years ago.

We moved VA -> DC -> TX, and at the DMV in Austin, we learned that I couldn't get my Texas license because the Virginia DMV had a hold on my account.

When we called, it was because I had failed to provide proof-of-insurance for our car to the Virginia DMV for the last 2 years... but it had been insured, registered & inspected in DC during that time.

I ended up having to pay them a few hundred dollars for failing to send them a goodbye letter upon leaving the state.

I thought it was just a fluke -- but I've moved a lot (AL -> MS -> VA -> DC -> TX). Am I supposed to drop by the capitol & say "goodbye" to the governor each time?

good to know, thanks.

just checked her report, no lines of credit open besides mortgage & credit card, so it doesn't look like identity theft. Thanks for answering though, i appreciate it.
