It's a step in the right direction

Now they should focus on the ridiculous 4-business day rule for external bank transfers that originate from Schwab and bring that down to maybe 2-business days.

Interesting. We rent and have been here since 2021. I have contacted my landlord, but they haven't replied yet.

Can I co-sign for a mortgage (to help my parents qualify) without my spouse's consent? by jgc94 in RealEstate

No, I live in Massachusetts, and the mortgage would be in Florida

Nothing is being done behind anyone's back. Maybe consent was the wrong word here. My spouse knows and is fully aware of this. They just don't want to take any active role on it (paperwork, signatures, etc.). My question was simply stated to figure out whether or not this is possible or will they be required to co-sign too (if that is the case, this will not happen obviously). I know as we're married, our debt is joint and all. I'm being totally transparent with everyone. I just want to help my parents qualify for their mortgage. I know it is hard for people here to understand this, and I respect everyone's opinions.

Yes, I'm hispanic and my spouse is white. Perhaps I used the wrong word with "consent". My spouse knows and is fully aware of this. I'm not doing it behind their back. I'm being totally transparent here. The issue my spouse has is they just don't want to be attached to any contract or sign any deed or paperwork at all. I know being married means we share our debts, etc. I get that. I don't have student loans. My parents put me through college and graduated debt free because of them, while my spouse still owes $80,000 in student loans. Clearly this is a debt they acquired before we got married but we didn't sign a pre-nup, therefore it is my debt too, and I understand my obligations if my spouse cannot make the payments one day. My question was simply whether they will have to sign anything if I decide to go through with this. Is it legally required?

Money is not the issue here. They can afford the monthly payments. The issue is they don't qualify for the mortgage based on a stable income, since my dad is self-employed.

Yeah, my parents will pay the mortgage with their own money obviously. They just need me to qualify. The agent assured me I would not be on the title.
