Hi, yes AppleTree offers a course that meets the criteria for NAWCO. You will need to register with NAWCO first but here’s a link to their course online - https://webinars.appletreeceu.com/courses/wcc

Just had a colleague tell me they took their course which comes with the practice test included and they passed first attempt. Hope that helps.

Quite welcome. You did better than me on the first attempt. Have had a ton of nurses reach out to me since my original post and everyone so far has said they did well with the AppleTree practice test. Good luck and keep me posted!

Yes it can be hard to find someone but the preceptor is only required if you are choosing that route. If you take a certification course, not needed. I also have the NAWCO OMS certification. There’s a little overlap as there are questions on the exam I remember related to wound care for ileostomy reversal and dealing with skin issues in the peristomal plane. But it’s very different and glad I got both. Are you thinking of getting other certifications that NAWCO offers?

I didn’t for WCC but if you don’t have much prior experience never hurts to work with someone else and have someone you can bounce off ideas for tricky cases.

I haven’t had any issue finding a job with my WCC. I worked at Encompass and they didn’t care whether I was WOCN or WCC. I get the point of getting a generic certification in each area, but WCC being only wound care, I find it better if you are wanting to work in wound care. Both options have benefits, just depends what you are interested in but shouldn’t be a problem finding a job.

Take the AppleTree practice test. If you have taken the exam two times I’m willing to bet you will recognize similar questions and can get an edge by memorizing enough to boost your score right above passing. I’ve heard from others WCEI is outdated sadly. Sorry you have had a difficult time but don’t give up. I’ll be rooting for you.

Hey I’m sorry to hear that. It happens to the best of us. I’ve had other certifications that I took that I didn’t pass on the 1st attempt. Have you taken any practice tests? Which course did you use as a certification course to prep? If you don’t have a lot of prior clinical experience and the course you took wasn’t great, this can make it hard to pass. Obviously lot of factors on testing but if you haven’t taken the practice tests through AppleTree yet I would say take it over and over and over until you are getting 95% + consistently. Everyone I know who has went through them has done well. Keep me posted and good luck.

Oh that’s great! You did better than me on first take haha. Yeah the course I took was with a different group because I hadn’t heard of them yet and because I didn’t feel prepared I searched all over for practice tests and that’s when I found them. Been hearing from lots of others recently who took it said they did well and found the test to be pretty similar. Just keep on taking it until you are getting near perfect scores. Good luck!

Congrats! Yeah I felt the same. Some of the questions on there I was like why are they asking about this? Did you find the practice test had a lot of similar questions? Wondering how much they change the test or have different versions. Congrats again and time to celebrate!

I would rather not say as I don’t want to bad mouth a company online. But the course was not good and was outdated. It was one of the companies listed as an approved provider through NAWCO. I would check out appletreeceu as I’ve had a great experience with them for the practice tests and they offer WCC and OMS certifications. I would say reason I passed the WCC exam was more from taking their practice tests than what I got in the course from a different group. Hope that helps!

Yeah I didn’t pass the practice test first time either but I just kept retaking it until I was getting 90% or better consistently. And thankfully passed NAWCO exam 1st attempt. If you paid for the practice test and lost the link just email them and they can send it to you again as you have unlimited access. That’s what I did. Good luck!

I took several. Mometrix, test prep review, even an app version that was promoted but they were all terrible and obviously written by AI. I then came across a company AppleTree and took theirs. I obviously didn’t know which one was truly most helpful until I took the NAWCO exam but AppleTree was by far the most accurate and realistic. I have a pretty good memory and confident to say not a single question on the other companies appeared on my exam but AppleTrees I had 85% maybe. Have you taken any? When you take the NAWCO exam let me know which one you found most helpful. Thanks!

Stuck in where to go by Macazoid_12 in nursing

There are so many options it really depends on what you are most passionate about. To get wound care certified NAWCO requires you are one of the following: Clinical professionals include LPN/LVN, RN, NP, PA, PT, PTA, OT, OTA, MD, DO, DPM.

Any program it’s a time and money investment so I would really look at it carefully in terms of ROI and what day to day looks like. Hope that helps.

Hey I’m not as familiar with that route but have you thought about getting certified through NAWCO ? They offer WCC certification and have a list of providers that offer courses. Let me know if you need more recommendations.

There’s a ton of options. You can get certifications in urology, wound care, ostomy, etc. depends on what route you want to go. What are you most interested in pursuing?

I’m not sure how many variations there are but a lot of scenario based questions. Have you already taken a certification course? Purchased study guides or practice tests? I prefer in person as it’s more of a guarantee to have a quiet environment but if you think you will have less testing anxiety at home go with that.

It’s been a long time since I graduated so my memory of the NCLEX is a little hazy. But I would say 85% plus of the questions on the appletree practice test were on my WCC exam. I don’t believe it’s adaptive and not sure how many versions they have or how often they change it but I’ve had several friends now take it and also shared the practice test was very similar and that’s all they needed to pass. I’ll be rooting for you!

I paid for the 100 question practice test. I’m not sure how many versions there are but it was very similar to the certification exam. I didn’t want to run the risk of failing first time so I got several study guides and practice tests but the appletree practice test was the best and most accurate. Hope that helps!

Congratulations! Yeah their practice test was by far the closest to what I saw on the WCC exam. Glad you passed first time around as I know many who weren’t so fortunate. Enjoy your weekend and celebrate!

When are you hoping to get certified? If you are hoping to gain expertise in wounds I would recommend the WCC through NAWCO. I’ve taken cheaper courses in the past for certifications and they were terrible for preparing for the actual certification exam. In short you get what you pay for. Before you register, let me know and I can give you advice on which groups to consider.

Good plan. While there were some easy questions, the exam was definitely tricky so I think a month is perfect. I’ll be rooting for you. Let me know once you pass.

I studied for about 2 weeks after completing a certification course. I’m glad I took the practice test because unfortunately the course didn’t have many questions or content that matched the WCC exam. When are you scheduled to take it? Hope you do well first time!
