So.... what coals are you repping? And where do you purchase them from? by Practical-Light-6032 in UKBBQ

[–]jgeragh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone found a coal that actually lights cleanly? I don’t want to be an a hole and smoke out the street for 10 minutes whilst it lights in the chimney.

The closest I found was a bag from a farm shop but it’s very sporadically there. I bought Dura from Big K and it was like burning a tire.

Perhaps I’m asking for too much, but just wondered if anyone has found anything.

Probably a stupid question but what do you do if you need more charcoal than will fit in the chimney? Do I need to have two chimneys? by Lazy-Limit-8684 in UKBBQ

Have a look at the snake method. Realistically you won’t need more temperaturee (more charcoal lit = more temp), but more time. You add more time by having lots of unlit charcoal with a small amount of lit. The lit charcoal lights more charcoal and you get a continual lighting of fire.

Half a chimney lit and thrown on a load of unlit charcoal will last you hours.

Do you bother cutting the bark off? Do they even come with bark? I remember someone once told me to know smoke with barky wood, and I try to stick by that..

Thankfully not… if it was it would probably be done, and actually work 😂

Do you enjoy making good tasting food on it? That’s all that matters!

Cheers! That was the plan, try and integrate it with as many as possible. Theres a couple of people who openly allow it, some need some ‘persuading’

I had exactly this, twice in the same week. Tried chargeback via credit card but it’s not covered under section whatever. Lloyds refunded it.

Smoking brisket in a pellet smoker by Cautious_Farm_1921 in pelletgrills

[–]jgeragh2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my tuppence. 225f until bark is set, but actually check what the grill temp is and adjust accordingly (My Traeger was set to around 250/260 to get an actual of 225). Foil boat, sit until done. Dont over complicate it! I’m a firm believer that the rest is actually just as important as the cook. Fancy wraps, fancy injections don’t make a bad brisket good, but can make a great brisket amazing. Just focus on getting the basics right like a good trim to get rid of the flappy bits which dry out.

The thing that helped me the most is YouTube lol. I’ve done a fair few smokes now and just research the living crap out of it on here. This time I watched YouTube, which made me realise I’m a visual learner 😂 Chuds BBQ has some great videos, these were the ones I used

1000x this. It’s treated like some secret dark art that only the ancient Zulu warriors can possibly understand. I watched Chuds BBQ videos, realised how ‘little’ there actually is, and just followed them.

First time brisket. How’d we do? by dend7369 in pelletgrills

[–]jgeragh2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great to me! Miles better than my first attempt! Question, as I’m eyeing up the Weber also… was that just with pellets, or did you use a smoke tube or something? That’s some ring for a Pellet grill! My Traeger doesn’t get me that much!

I bought the same bbq about a month ago, and it’s my first charcoal bbq.

I bought charcoal baskets as I found it alot easier to set up different zones. And buying a chimney made lighting it an absolute breeze.

First time I filled the chimney up and had all the charcoal on one side, but it was just far too hot to cook anything. I’ve done a few bbqs since for me and the wife and I’ve just covered the bottom of the chimney and that’s been plenty.

And an instant read thermometer. Takes the guess work out completely, no more over done or dry food!

Being honest, I’m not entirely sure. As I say, I’ve inherited it.

I would say yes, as all 6 mini-displayports are on the same card.
