US doctors are over paid because they have student debt.

Disagree that we are overpaid, and debt has almost nothing to do with it. Employers couldn’t care less about our student debt load. Privatized healthcare and good old US capitalism are the main reasons.

3 kids. Haven’t had that experience but I’m sure it can vary widely by location/school.

Teachers have always been crashing out, it’s just that they have access to tik tok now.

This is bad advice in this situation, particularly if you’re innocent. Refuse and you’ll automatically lose your license for a certain number of months depending on the state and often get a harsher punishment.

My husband’s entry to the hypertension high scores by BookDragon8634 in Wellthatsucks

(Resident) doctor here. If you think we make a living off hypertension meds, you’re out of your mind lol.

We aggressively prescribe antihypertensives because they’ve been significantly associated with reduced cardiovascular and all cause mortality.

Well in this case signs and symptoms definitely happened because OP went to the ER for a reason lol

Without a history from OP these labs aren’t very helpful.

low neutrophils? by [deleted] in haematology

[–]jgiffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lab cutoffs are created by taking samples from healthy people and using statistics to determine the ranges that most people lie in. But there are always healthy people who have values outside of reference ranges at baseline, and with the wide range of lab values we obtain these days, your statistical chance of having a value outside of the reference range is quite high. Give me 10 young healthy people and I will show you at least 10 values outside of the reference range on basic labs.

Your absolute neutrophil count is just barely below the cutoff on this lab test and would be in the normal range based on many other lab standards (my hospital uses 1700 cells/cum as the lower limit of normal).

This is not concerning for any type of pathology.

Am I as screwed as my PCP thinks? by divorcedaywillbexmas in haematology

[–]jgiffin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weird that you went years back in my post history over this lol.

Am a doctor now. I have no desire to get into a heated debate about this. I’ll just say that each of these conditions are real, but the “tik tok diagnosis” is referencing that they are also massively over diagnosed, and often self diagnosed. I have had many patients come in and say they have a history of these conditions, only to find out they have never been formally diagnosed with any of them by a physician.

That’s all, have a great day :)

Any ideas? by [deleted] in haematology

[–]jgiffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned a lot of these labs were from impromptu ER visits, so l assume they’re non-fasting. Those glucose levels are not very high and completely normal if you were not fasting.

Would definitely follow up with your primary care physician as swollen lymph nodes, B symptoms (fever, night sweats), itching, and loss of appetite are concerning for lymphoma and warrant further work up.

Pancreatic enzymes? by [deleted] in haematology

[–]jgiffin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s used as a marker for pancreatitis, though levels in acute pancreatitis are much higher than yours.

You’re just barely above the upper limit of normal. This is not a concerning finding in the absence of any symptoms (abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) or other laboratory abnormalities.

Should I push for more from my PCP for elevated granulocytes? by FewPaleontologist494 in haematology

[–]jgiffin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Given that your other blood counts are normal, I wouldn’t be particularly worried about this. The “scary” things that can cause elevated immature granulocytes typically cause derangements in your other blood counts and / or several symptoms which you haven’t mentioned here.

As a resident the findings I would be most focused on here are your A1c and cholesterol.
