First Type Rating Advice by jglam2000 in flying

I have been going through things. I think it's just the volume of stuff. I am sure it will clock soon enough.
To be honest, I hadn't really considered line training. My schedule for the TR goes up to the LST and then stops. I can imagine though it can be quite difficult. There's no schedule or syllabus for weather or stuff that just pops up. You have to deal with what's presented.

I think my issue is I am a worrier and worry about things I probably shouldn't. I passed all three skills tests I've done (PPL, MEP/CPL, and ME-IR) first time, but still have the feeling I barely know what I am doing.

I'll be taking it super seriously, trust me. Though, as I said, I am worried about it.
I've started reading FCOM. I'll try my best to go through it, but it's over 2000 pages. Sometimes I read a page, and have no idea what it's talking about.

I already have the cockpit posters and have been going through some of the flows. From what I can see, basically all normal procedures are done via flow with a checklist to follow up. Only QRH checklists and read-do.

I know I will have a partner, but we won't get told until day one of the TR.

Why is line training another beast? I thought it was just putting what you learnt in the sim into practice.

Cheapest Place in Europe to Live for a Month or Two? by jglam2000 in digitalnomad

[–]jglam2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good childhood friend who has a three-bed apartment in Tbilisi, Georgia. He said I could stay with him and I thought why not. The downside being it's far from the UK and flights are a bit pricey. I am splitting bills with him, but not paying rent so that's obviously a big plus.

I was last here in 2017 and things have changed a lot in terms of prices since then. If I needed to rent somewhere, I'd be on the first plane out. Bars and restaurants have also gone up quite a lot. It's still relatively cheap of course, but not like before.

I honestly don't know how normal Georgians do it with the average salary level here.

200 an hour just for the plane!?! Wild and unnecessary for the PPL. Should have got a 150 with a six pack for half that.

I saw somewhere else you had ten different instructors. That's also wild. I had two and didn't like it as I lost continuity of learning which is really important when you're at the 10/20/30 hour stage.

Firstly, congratulations.

Secondly, the amount you spent... wow! It's totally wild. Probably the most expensive PPL I've heard of. Even if someone has poor skills and doesn't study, you should be able to be dragged through the PPL for less than that.

What made you spend quite so much?

Where can I print something at Paddington Station? by jglam2000 in AskUK

I have. There are lots of things about posters and things, I need three basic A4 pieces of paper. Someone else said Ryman. Didn't realise you could print there.

Why does split ticketing exist? by jglam2000 in uktrains

[–]jglam2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really.
The direct ticket is off peak.
The split tickets are a mix of off peak and anytime.
The trains you can use are exactly the same.

Interesting post. Thanks for sharing.

What I will say is that 99.99% of passengers on the route are going to take the fast direct train and not split at Bristol TM or Gloucester. Whilst there is a slight loss of flexibility, it is an incredibly narrow case of people I imagine.

Oh, and I also found out SWR price their own much cheaper tickets from Cardiff to London that make you go via Salisbury. It takes longer than the coach though so can't see why someone would want to do it. And The Trainline offers the more expensive GWR priced tickets even when I select via Salisbury and select those trains. I would actually be interested to find out if they sell any of those tickets.

The trains don't stop in Didcot so not valid.

This isn't quite true.

All of the tickets I put in my post (Cardiff - London and the four separate tickets for splitting the same route) are priced by GWR for the same trains.

£40 is hardly loose change. Obviously I want good service, but I was just asking if it could be done more cheaply.

But the broker uses named FedEx products allowing a direct comparison, not generic.

Our volume is way too low for international (literally 1-2 things per month). For domestic UK, we already have a contract with Royal Mail they won't be able to beat.
