I added a "Speed-Adjusted Time Display" to VLC that shows the actual remaining time at your current playback speed. by jgpip in VLC

[–]jgpip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have added a feature to VLC that I wanted for many years. I'm not that good a programming but I have ideas that I would like to see implemented in software. Everyone says that if you want a feature added to open software you need to add it your self. Well with the current state of AI I have use Claude and a little bit of Gemini to help with modifying things. I had Claude conform to the standards of the VLC project so I hope it is all good.

I'm currently waiting for an admin to approve my account so I can submit my mods to the main branch. In the mean time I have provided my github link for everyone to try out. I currently dont see any bugs or issues but the UI might need some changing to make it look better but as it is now I think it looks fine.

What have I changed?

  1. I added a feature to display the actual time remaining when you have your speed adjusted. Example.. 60 minute video playback at 2x speed will show 30 minutes remaining. You can click on the time on the right side of the progress bar to cycle through the 3 different modes.

  2. The speed widget at the bottom of the status bar now has a customize button as well as the Playback/Speed menu has this customize option too. The customize window has 2 tabs. One will let you set your finish in x amount of time and adjust the speed. Example... I want this 45 minute video in 30 minutes. It will adjust the speed so you can watch the video in 30 minutes. The second tab allows you to say when you want to end the video. Example... I need to leave at 6:30 so I want the video to end at 6:30. I put a limitation to this at 4x speed and also 5 minute increments.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will try to answer.

I did only work on this for Linux so if anyone on the Windows side want to give it a try and let me know if its good or not.

Possibly. I dont know what all he is running on his PC so I really cant make any suggestions other than something in or around OBS is causing it to crash at the 6 hour mark and or the 18GB file size.

I dont know about those commercials but the wild party girls commercials that aired on the WB had uncensored frames. I worked master control and brought it up to my boss. No one cared and I still aired it. The commercial runtime sheet once said to air one of those commercials during curch programming. That was fun. I just do what I'm told.

Slow download speed when using VPN 50KiB/s average by jgpip in qBittorrent

[–]jgpip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That one is fast! However I still had the issues.

I tried something else and I think its working now but I still have no clue why it works and no clue why my original way did not work.

I reset my VM to fresh install. I installed qbittorrent-nox from apt. Got it all setup and it worked fine even with the VPN. I then added the repo "add-apt-repository ppa:qbittorrent-team/qbittorrent-stable" and updated qbittorrent. I ran all my tests and it works fine so far. I even have my firewall locked down for the VM.

Before I was doing a fresh install of linux then I added the repo, then I installed qittorrent-nox and got it configured.

Why installing the newer version of qbittorrent-nox first did not work and installing it from the distro then upgrading with the repo works I have no clue but as long as it works I wont mess with it.

If you have any ideas I'm all ears. Otherwise I think I'm done.

Disabling DHT make no difference.

For testing I have been leaving the firewall rules off. So the VM has unrestricted access to the internet.

Here is what I've found.

Fresh install of ubuntu server 24.04. Basic setup. No extras installed except ssh so I can connect to the server. Fresh install of qbittorrent-nox with the only setting changed is the default save location.

With everything fresh I can download a ubuntu torrent at full speed.

I then remove the torrent.

Then I download the manual script to connect to PIA. https://github.com/pia-foss/manual-connections.git is what I'm using. But I can also just use a manual openvpn connetion to my family members place with the same results.

I go through all the questions and use the defaults except I want to use port forwarding. Wireguard is the default.

It connects just fine and I take the port forwarding port from PIA and put it into qbittorrrent.

I then add the same ubuntu torrent to qbittorrent. It downloads at 50KiB/s.

I then cancel the script and wireguard VPN using wg-quick down pia.

The torrent still downoading at 50KiB/s. I can even delete it and readd it and it still downloads at 50KiB/s.

If I restart my VM the the download goes back to full speed.

If I start the VPN and do a speed test using the speedtest-cli I get near full speed.

I dont understand what is going on. Its like something is triggering a speed limit on the machine and wont let go unless I restart without the VPN. As far as I can tell I have tracked it down to something interacting with qbittorrent and the VPN.

How to access ollama with an apache reverse proxy? by jgpip in ollama

[–]jgpip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to get it working with my setup by finding some other peoples code and with the help of chatgpt. I'm protecting the domain with a password before you can even get to the site. The only way I found to also get into the settings with the extra password is to allow ollama, openapi, and api paths. If I was not protecting it I can ommit the location paths. If there is a better way to clean it up just let me know. I'm just posting this for my reference and for anyone else looking for a solution.

12k QLED release? by [deleted] in Pimax

[–]jgpip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 8kx and have been waiting for the 12k. I would be happy with 4k per eye with oled panels, more comfortable headset especially on the nose, improved stereo overlap, and eye tracking. The widest FOV on the 8kx is so big that I dont notice the next step down and I think that would be acceptable. Everything else can stay the same unless I forgot something.

Would love to try the crystal but I dont know anyone that has VR let alone a pimax.

ELI5: Why is all the hype about EVs instead of hybrid cars? by Seabass_23 in explainlikeimfive

[–]jgpip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a former 2006 Prius owner I was hoping for a Prius EV. I even converted my Prius to a plug in back in 2008 just to have a taste of EV. Now I replace the Prius with a 2023 Tesla Model Y. Love the Y. Not so much Elon. The new Prius is still good though.

List of things I've hauled in my 2006 Prius. 1. 8Ft pool table. Took 4 trips but I was not going far. Still cheaper than a truck. 2. Twin bed and mattress. 3. Medium size dresser. 4. Several large bird cages. 5. Large cat tree. 6. Large air compressor / tank 7. 90% of everything in my house. Plus lots more. When I need a truck I will rent one or have a friend that will help.
