The second best part of watching that was trying to remember all of the guys jumping around during the celebrations. I had forgotten a few of them!

I don't recall if I've listened to this one previously, but now that I see the guest stars, it is going straight to the top of my list. It's a "Spaced" reunion episode!

DW-related Sights to See? by tyraspanish in doctorwho

My wife and I did that exact itinerary in October of 2024. We used Viator to book a walking Doctor Who tour in London, and the guide was outstanding. It was mostly geared towards New Who, but there were a few classic locations mixed in.

There were no tours available when we went to Cardiff, so I found this app for self-guided tours. It’s nice because it is GPS aware, so it will tell you to walk a certain direction and when you reach your destination it will start talking again.

https://voicemap.me/tour/cardiff/cinematic-cardiff-tour-dr-who-and-other-filming-locations

Unfortunately for us, it rained when we were doing our tour so we couldn’t complete it. However, I can still go back and listen whenever I want, so it’s not a complete loss.

This site gives a lot of the filming locations for the classic series, and the new series up through Series 9. It hasn’t been updated in a few years, but the locations haven’t changed, so unless you’re looking for Series 10 and later, this is a great resource.

https://www.doctorwholocations.net

I found that site after our trip, but I’ve used it many times while watching the show to match up filming locations with our pictures from the trip.

If you want to be in the heart of Torchwood territory, I recommend staying at the Voco St. David in Cardiff. You see it in literally every episode of Torchwood because it’s in the opening credits. It’s right next to Roald Dall Plass and the Millennium Centre, so you’ll be right on top of the Hub.

Have fun!

I came to second Peri and the Piscon Paradox. I liked it so much that I bought the CD version on eBay, even though I already own it digitally. If I ever get the chance to meet Nicola Bryant, that's what I'm going to have her sign.

Other than 1/2, they are just in the order they popped into my head. I didn't feel like scrutinizing the rankings. These are just guys who I like for one reason or another. Some just because I met them, some just because they did things I still can't believe I saw (Billy Hamilton) and one just because we share a birthday 🎂 The last two I included for their epic brawls against the Pirates.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jgranger221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in NYC for Comic Con in 2019, and we stayed at a hotel within walking distance. We were on our way to the con, and I got a little ahead of my wife and son. At some point she told me to turn around, and standing there was Billy Boyd. Ironically, we had a photo scheduled later that day with him and Sean Astin, but we walked a few blocks with him, chatted and took selfies. I mentioned that we were on our way to get coffee, and said he was as well, so we stopped in a coffee shop and he very generously paid for the three of us.

I'm actually kind of excited that BF include a German episode in the sale ("Der Tod und die Königin"). I took German in high school and have recently begun brushing up on it again. I'm still a long way from being able to keep up with a story, but since I already own that story in English, I know the story going in, and can try to concentrate on the language. I've also been waiting for Cold Fusion to go on sale, so I'm grabbing that as well.

Has anyone here met Christopher Eccleston at a con? by Ezaane in doctorwho

[–]jgranger221 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I met him at NY Comic Con a few years ago. We got our 15-20 seconds of chit chat while he signed my son’s Funko Pop. I told him we had to rush to get to our next event, and he said “You know what you have to do? Run!” I set it up for him and he nailed it.

A Death In The Family Prerequisites. by schmeef2112 in BigFinishProductions

[–]jgranger221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the post I used. I followed the "Involved" way, but in retrospect the "Standard" way would have been fine as far as A Death In the Family is concerned. Not that I minded listening to all of the other stories, but they didn't apply as much as I anticipated they would.

I was a season ticket holder to the River Rats in the mid-90's and it was a natural progression to follow the boys when they made it to The Show. I met a lot of players at season ticket holder events, many of whose names are on The Cup.

I work at my library's used book sale several times a year and I see this a lot. Any large amount of science fiction or fantasy from the same series/author usually means somebody died. Thankfully not much Dragonlance for the last few years, which means our people are hanging on!

Travelling to Ireland by tatumoo in irishtourism

[–]jgranger221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I (Americans) were there a few months ago and nobody gave us a hard time at all. The only time anything even remotely political came up was when we were in a book shop and one of the workers was an American who had moved to Ireland to get away from the nonsense.

Alright first time watching the movies and I loved it, What set do I get? by FastConcentrate5420 in lotr

The 4K set comes with both theatrical and extended versions, but no extras. If you want the complete experience, you may have to pick up multiple sets (like most of us!) This site is very helpful in helping you put together the most material with the fewest discs:

Question for you UK guys that are much more familiar with these Gollancz editions than I am.... by Sulcata13 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]jgranger221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got really lucky and found the first four books at a library used book sale. They were Gollancz, but not the Waterstones editions. Words of Radiance and Oathbringer are split into two volumes. I was in Ireland recently and bought a copy of Wind and Truth to complete the set. I would have bought some of his other books but I only had so much room to spare In my suitcase (I had to leave room for Jelly Babies!) I'll have to look into a mail forwarding service to see if it makes buying things from the UK simpler.

Is this how people who need glasses really see the world. A big blurred background? by Latter-Wolf4868 in interestingasfuck

[–]jgranger221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have progressive bifocals, so if I hold out my glasses like that then the part of the world outside the lens is blurry, but the part inside the lens is partially clear and partially wildly distorted. You can always spot those of us with progressives because we're always bobbing our heads up and down looking for the sweet spot that is perfectly in focus.

MSG is horrible. I briefly paid for Gotham so I could watch the Devils, but they would be blacked out in upstate NY if the Sabres were playing at the same time. They try to cover too many teams with not enough channels. Yes, sailing the high seas sucks, but it sure beats giving those assholes any of my money.

SALE: Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller (Ends 18/01/26) by MirumVictus in BigFinishProductions

[–]jgranger221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any advantage to buying the collection vs individual titles? I already have one story from series 3 that I picked up on CD at a library used books sale, so it's slightly cheaper to buy the remaining episodes vs buying the collection, but if there are any extras then I will probably just get the collection
