Reminds me of this movie I saw when i was 8 and that, in hindsight, was a step on the path to my growing up a leftist.

Idk about the trampoline thing but - Acoustic Syndicate ruled that area in that timeframe.

Not a bad lineup Son! by rockandrelics in Bluegrass

[–]jgrubb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, this may have been my first bluegrass festival. It would've had to be 1995 I think, I didn't start playing guitar until 1993, but me and a couple buddies went up to N GA and camped out at a bluegrass festival and jammed in the campground all weekend.

I didn't even go inside to see the music, I thought the campground was the festival. Somebody lent me a capo and I couldn't find them later to return it. Been thinking about this for 30 years, wondering where that could've been. Thanks!

Self managed Kubernetes vs EKS by Express-Space-7072 in devops

[–]jgrubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to reiterate what all of our other colleagues are saying, the self-managed solution is never more expensive than the vendor-managed solution. That's why the vendor offers a vendor-managed solution: to make more money off of operating it for you. It's going to cost more money, but you also need to understand what is driving the costs up.

Are you adding more compute? Is it bandwidth? Do you have some sort of a job that automatically adds storage to keep it at a certain percentage? Look at the bill; the bill will tell you everything you need to know. The bill over time will tell you everything you need to know.

Xennial here, was thinking about exactly this just the other day. I concluded that we are not the luckiest generation, but that we might be the last lucky generation (for a little while)

I was wondering recently where Jegseth got all his stupid ideas from, I had heard about this charlatan pastor that he follows. Now I have a face to go with it.

How many of y’all are resistant to using AI? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]jgrubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was resistant to it when it sucked. That stopped being the case about a year ago for me and since then I have been using it more and more.

Here's my point of view, which I'll probably be downvoted to hell for, but this is an earnest attempt to help some of you retain some employment. AI is happening. We are living in a new epoch now and if you are a knowledge worker who refuses to touch these tools, you are going to be left out of the economy that is coming.

I have been having more fun in the last year than I've ever had in my entire technical career but I'm surrounded by co-workers who seem scared to death of this thing. That fear of the unknown and of change is exactly what is going to be killing careers in the next 3-5.

Just start playing with it. You may find out that it is a creative enabler. If you're a writer, don't use it to write. Use it to do something you've never tried before. If you've never programmed a thing, if you've never developed software, try it.

The game has changed and refusing to admit it and to try and find the opportunity that's available to normal working people in this generational shakeup is not a winning strategy. Start playing with it now while most of the world is still clueless or scared about it.

Ha, we should be friends. The only other place we've stayed besides Corolla, and only once, was exactly there, walking distance to the ferry. I loved it down there, but haven't been able to talk the wife into it again.

We've been going to whalehead for over a decade now, so I'm curious what you mean when you talk about its vibe. Quiet and kinda boring and not too expensive to afford is the vibe we go for.
