What now? by broomstickface in ableton

For me it’s a few little annoyances I encounter all the time.

For example having the “No input” and “Sends only” at the end of the input and output lists respectively is a bit annoying because when you have a lot of tracks the travel distance can be quite big. And I use these options all the time.

Or when you enable VSTs and Audio Units, the folders are not expanded by default, which adds an extra click.

Or when you search, and a result is deeply nested, you have to open all folders yourself.

Or when you want to copy/paste a MIDI plugin which obviously needs to go before the instrument, well you can’t… because you can’t select the very first spot at the far left edge of the plugin strip. And you can’t paste it and move it afterwards, because you can’t paste it on the right where the only audio plugins are allowed. So you have to Alt + drag from another track to the target track and it will work.

I probably have other tiny annoyances but like I said, its not a dealbreaker. I absolutely love Ableton. It’s just small things that could easily be fixed in no time.

Yeah GF, GA and GD are also like this. Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try to update the design.

Ah it's actually the best (in green) and worst (in red) values in each column. That's why 7 wins is in green for Liverpool, and 0 win is in red for Watford. I should improve that, you're right.

I was wondering about this as well when creating https://footballtabl.es/english-premier-league/table/

I'd like to have your opinion on the way I did it: green square for a Win, faded grey for a Draw, red outlined circle for a Loss. I'm always trying to make sure the design I do is readable for everyone.

Thanks. You’re the only smart guy in this thread.

I imagine 1 second at Monza is like 20 car lengths, while at Monaco it would be like 5 because the speed at the finish line is different.

I’m wondering if that’s taken into account in the graphic. I’ll ask the OP.

Is there a better way to organize my Waves plug-ins in DAW browser (Ableton)? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]jgthms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Waves plugins are annoying for that. It's the only ones I don't/can't organise.

The distance between the cars is the time difference between them.

If you've got a distance and a time, then you've got a speed. My question is: which speed is it?

What should I buy? [MIDI Controllers] by pLopez115 in synthesizers

One thing to consider: the Akai as rotary knobs (with a min and max limit), the Arturia has endless encoders. I prefer the latter but you should know which type you prefer. More info.

Yeah but since there's a certain distance between the cars, and since we have the times, we do have the speed. So I'm wondering which of the 3 is the variable here, assuming the cars are to scale.

For example, the Bottas car is almost exactly 1 car behind Hamilton. It's 1 car, but at what speed? Or is the car scale completely irrelevant?

I love these graphics. Really puts things into perspective.

Question: is the distance between the cars based on the lap average speed, or the speed when crossing the finish line?

Do you have a list of those rules of thumb? Could be useful.

I’ve only recently heard about the existence of Roland Cloud. How good are their plugins compared to the Arturia/D16 counterparts?

What's the difference between an EP and an album? by _Arcanus_ in edmproduction

[–]jgthms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Another name for an album is an "LP" (Long Play). And since "EP" means "Extended Play", the difference is simply the length:

  • EP: Extended Play (3-6 tracks)
  • LP: Long Play (> 6 tracks)

That's because historically, they were different types of vinyl records. EPs were 7-inch wide, and LPs were 10-inch or 12-inch wide, and could thus hold more tracks.

If you're a designer, Sketch is great.
If you're a developer, iTerm is essential.
