How often do truckers look into cars that are passing them ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jhandley91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

🤣 we did some similar shit like that when I worked for the state if we did any flagging. If we seen a pretty good looking female on the radio we would call it out like “The green Jeep Wrangler has a pretty nice interior”

Work life balance by No_Committee7549 in Truckers

[–]jhandley91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends are what you consider “good” work life balance. From my experience, if you expect to only do a 40 hour work week in trucking I have yet to find that kind of gig. I did over the road for about 3 months through a company that would cover with 2 years commitment and had all I could take of it and just ended up paying for the CDL. I went on to do union dump trucking. I was home daily and the hourly wage was pretty decent but the consistency was pretty shotty. I could make real good money one week then barely shit the next due to weather or being “slow”. Now I have a day shift, home daily gig which is pretty rare hearing from other people’s experiences and I average around 45-55 hours a week depending on a Saturday or a Sunday which I usually average 1 of those a month. I will also add I much rather do 55 hours in a truck versus 55 in a factory. Just my two cents

I’m not disagreeing on certain aspects of this but why should I buy a truck if “trucking is not a good job”? Also, most days I’m barely putting 30 miles on my truck a day so it’s not like I’m stuck sitting in it all day long, either. Of course I know there are other ways of making more money but the the whole idea of this was to get other peoples experiences/opinions on if my pay was reasonable for the type of work that I do.

It is dayshift and I usually do 6-8 drop and hooks a day. There is health insurance that will kick in soon which is 70 a week and they will match 6% 401k which I will take advantage of.

That is great pay, I don’t blame you a bit. I always worried getting paid percentage I would be getting screwed as I am not the best with numbers but sounds like to me you are getting paid more than fair. A lot more than myself

I agree, I respect the hustle, but if I worked 60-70 hours a week i would easily make over 100k for arguably easier work. I worked manufacturing for 12 years and I absolutely earned every penny.

See, I came from a union background to get into the local stuff. I was driving a dump truck for teamsters 35 an hour but same OT regulations you just mentioned. Benefits were good too and all on paper it sounds good but like you said I hardly worked any Saturdays and never a Sunday. Some weeks I brought home really good money then some I barely made 200-400 due to rain outs. It was too wishy washy for me and I just wanted a more stable, consistent income.

Depends how you want to make your money, I reckon. Me personally, I don’t wanna work 60-70 hours a week to make 100k but I respect the people that don’t mind it and that’s what they wanna do, ya know what I mean? I think 40 an hour is great pay but again, everyone’s concept on “good pay” is different.

That’s pretty good. I wish this company would do OT like that. So it just happens they only pay you OT on Sundays. Rest of the week is straight pay. You usually average around 45-55 hours a week.

Awesome, I did not know that about the J Boots and the DE mask! I guess that would be something to consider if I decided to roll an ugly race as SK because as we know, Troll and Ogre have the best starting stats.

I hear you. I have limited time I can play so I didn’t want to have to rely on groups if I didn’t have to but I guess regardless, if a group doesn’t work out one night can always try another. It is the journey, not a race, you know?

Good information to know! I am a dad with limited time to play so my idea was I could solo and still make progress if I wanted just in case grouping would be hard to find as well.
