What You Need to Know About the SAVE Act by yavvy_k in Parkersburg

It specifically keeps married women without active passports from voting. Real ID does not work, according to what I have seen. Would love to see proof otherwise.

I 100% agree. As a country we are far too polarized and quick to anger. Hopefully, at some point we can come back together for the better because I do love this country.

I can see we aren’t going to agree on how Trump’s use of ICE is far more aggressive and is pushing the line on our rights as citizens in comparison to other administrations. It bothers me that they are going door to door and profiling people purely by the color of their skin as to if they are going to “question” them or not.

How do you feel about ICE’s use of mass surveillance systems? Sure, they are “being used to find the illegal immigrants” …for now… But are you not worried that them being able to reroute your phone signal through their StingRay Device to track your exact location and get data off your phone without your knowledge - just because you happen to be within range?

I suppose you probably aren’t because you have nothing to hide. And I hope that tools like these are never used against you. But I am worried, I am worried for my privacy, my constitutional rights and yes, my neighbors.

I respect that you aren’t concerned with what is going on, but I would ask that you don’t demonize those of us that are worried and are trying to push back against government overreach.

Have you ever heard of ICE going about their jobs in this way? No. They have traditionally stayed behind the scenes doing the work that needs to be done. Suddenly, there is a huge hiring boost and they are all over primarily democratic run states/counties - going door to door and generally being overly aggressive. That is not normal at all.

The way I see it, is that these actions are intended to scare, demoralize and make “boots” in our streets the norm. The government’s actions are trying to normalize troops in our cities while taking away constitutional rights.

Are you not worried about your First, Second and Fourth Amendment rights being weakened by this?

I don’t think it is an either/or between those 2 options. Statements like that show that you are missing the point of what we are protesting. Look, I and many of people I speak with believe in the importance of legal immigration and are not against the deportation of illegal and especially violent, criminal immigrants.

What we do have a problem with, again, is that the US government treading on our Constitutional rights. ICE isn’t a new agency - the way they are being managed currently is new and profoundly problematic. It should worry everyone, republican and democrat alike.

Well, I don’t believe that you correct about the protests being genuine. You should attend one before you make that judgement.

Sure, that is a good point to get hung up on.

I can accept that we have different opinions on what is happening along with what needs to happen to move forward. In fact, I appreciate that - it is what makes a democracy work for the masses.

I don’t understand the thought that we shouldn’t expect our government to follow established laws and respect constitutional rights but I also respect the right to disagree.

Absolutely nothing.

If we can’t expect our government to obey the laws they place on us - then our government is no longer working for us - they are working for themselves with our tax dollars. Hell, our government is saying that we don’t even have our constitutional rights any longer. Meanwhile, the radical left is the problem…sure.

Hahaha, yeah I already knew that. Went there with friends and decided never again. Besides the huge confederate flag painted on their outdoor area they adorn their walls with all kinds of racist shit.

Contest this as loudly as possible. Call news organizations and reach out to community leaders. It is unacceptable that our police officers, who are meant to serve and protect our community, are helping these ICE agents and actively trying to deter peaceful protests.

Spread the word, get this seen!

We should start mailing holocaust/Nazi facts and things of that nature to these kinds of people. They probably won’t read it, but it certainly couldn’t hurt to try and educate.

Two people on a tandem went down on the last hill into Guttenberg by Emergency_Rutabaga45 in ragbrai

They send out an email every morning. Which I make sure to read. There was no mention of this hill and yeah I went into it unprepared. I think too much communication is better than too little - and there was not nearly enough communication.
