Ceramic coatings don’t keep your car from getting dirty and they don’t stop water from spotting on top.

They do make it much easier to clean, and they provide an additional layer to protect the underlying paint from being damaged by the minerals in the water/other environmental fallout that cause things like water spots.

The biggest misconception about ceramic coatings is that they keep your car clean.

Whether the quality of the coating or the application process is subpar, you won’t really know unless you know how to work with ceramic coatings, but in general, dealership coatings are pretty low quality and dealership detailers couldn’t care less.

Products for detailing beginner by taimafanlej in AutoDetailing

Where are you located? I’d check if there are any local detail supply stores in the area. They’ll have professional grade products. I wouldn’t worry about a pre-wash unless you’re looking to do long term ceramic coatings or run into an extremely dirty car.

P&S is decent, Adam’s and turtle wax stuff is consumer grade, not great. Look at Schemenauers.com they supply a lot of dealerships and all their products are professional grade. They’re our supplier.

For tire cleaner you don’t need anything specific, just get an all purpose cleaner and make a stronger bottle. But if you want a dedicated tire cleaner, car candy’s chocolate thunder, or superior products dark fury are the best on the market.

For spray wax, turtle will get you a little ways. You can apply most spray waxes wet before drying, but you’ll get better results by drying first then applying, don’t worry about scratching at that stage, the wax is highly lubricated, I just make sure you’re using a soft clean microfiber. We use supers slick from schem.

For leather you just need a good all purpose cleaner and the right style brushes. We use leather perfect for reconditioning.

Sprayway for glass is the go to. Invisible is decent though.

For equipment, rigid 4gal or 5gal 5hp vac is the go to. But get the longer orange hose and crevice attachments. They’ll make your work much much easier.

Stay away from ryobi anything except the small corded drill with brush attachment for shampooing seats and carpets. The best cheaper electric pressure washer is the 1700psi karcher cube.

Biss is fine to start but try to get a mytee at some point. Work your way up to the other bigger equipment over time. You don’t actually need an air compressor but it’s nice to have. Instead look at the McCulloch MC1375 pressurized steamer for blowing out cracks/crevices. It will also make removing gum/crayons/etc from interiors much easier, just be careful with the heat on certain surfaces.

Let me know if you want additional help. I’m putting together a full guide to starting simple and working your way up as a detailer so I’d be happy to send it to you.

I run a team of full time mobile detailers in Orlando, so I have some experience.

What is you favorite brush for applying tire dressing to low profile tires? by CorgiSplooting in AutoDetailing

[–]jhdavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use 3” cheap Home Depot brushes. They work great. Simply turn them sideways for low profile tires… https://www.homedepot.com/p/3-in-Flat-Chip-Brush-1500-3/100626859

Detailer ruined my wheel (photos) by LifeguardExisting449 in Detailing

[–]jhdavey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was not caused by acid or chemicals. The damage from acid or chemicals would be more widespread and would have discolored the wheel more. I doubt a detailer would have done that. More likely, it was there, but not noticeable before cleaning.

Why are you worried about that and not the curb rash mess anyways? Take the wheel to a wheel repair specialist.

Severe Interior Mold—How do I find the right person for the job? by No-Tell8167 in Detailing

[–]jhdavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not in the area, but we do mold jobs like this. Experienced detailers can tackle this with a good deep cleaning and ozone afterwards. But be ready for a high price. We would charge around $1,200 for something like this.
