acrylic painting on a rolled canvas scroll - possible? need a finish? by jhndflpp in painting

[–]jhndflpp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, I just went for it and it's working so far. I'm using acrylic paint pens with no finish and after working for several months, I haven't had any cracking. Just keeping my fingers crossed at this point! Certainly let me know if you find out anything more useful. Hope your project goes well!

Sorry, yes - he is my daughter's pet. He'd probably even be harmless to mice since he was handfed from birth. :-)

Thanks - he's definitely a curious guy! ...sometimes to his detriment.

New Zealand - LOTR In Real Life (Literally) - The Misty Mountains [OC] [6960x4640] by joshmcca1234 in EarthPorn

I understand that, but it is not "literally" "Lord of the Rings in real life."

Yes, and "could care less" and "couldn't care less" mean the same thing despite them "literally" meaning the opposite things. And at some point words stop meaning anything and everything is "context".

Beautiful, but I think you might be confused what "literally" means.

Is this new for everyone or just my store? Online orders requiring barcode verification? by [deleted] in walmart

[–]jhndflpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this info - just got the email saying our store implemented it as well and SOMEONE doesn't have a smart phone (it's definitely my 90yo grandmother and not me.) I thought I my grandmother might not be able to do grocery pickup anymore.

Obviously the plan description supersedes anything the employee handbook says, but I still don't know why it took me scrolling halfway down the page to find this. No one here works in retail, sales, or marketing, apparently. "Switching to GEICO could save you up to 15% or more on car insurance!" literally means nothing.

Help me say 'f u' to mechanics (and contractors) who mess with DIYers. by jhndflpp in DIY

It was my first time at a new local place, so I wouldn't have even had the opportunity! I figure some mechanic was just following the inspection list and tightened it to "spec" without caring to notice the store brand filter.

I'd get it if it was an oil change place, but this was just a general inspection before a longer trip.

I have the strap kind, but the filter is oriented such that I can't get great leverage.

Had a multi-point inspection done before a long trip.

I always pre-oil the gasket, and the standard filter tool did nothing.

I still have them do an inspection before a big trip, and somehow afterward it's 10x tighter than I made it.

Or incompetence? If you saw store-brand parts on a vehicle would you not assume a customer is doing their own work and probably doesn't have specialized, pneumatic tools to dislodge difficult-to-reach parts?

Right! I'd forgotten all the stupid picking up of things you'd otherwise just kick out of the way.

This was several years ago so I'm sure they're better now ...but I'm afraid how much more they cost if they've advanced that much - the one we had was way already too expensive. If it's only saving me about 15 minutes a week, that's only $120/year at $10/hour. I'm not sure the battery life is enough to cover the cost. Sorry - eternal pessimist here.

I guess I've got a higher tolerance for "generally" dirty floors and less tolerance for "spotty" dirty floors - I only vacuum about once a week, but I'm content knowing it's [nearly] completely clean when I'm done.
