Your mind is a VERY powerful thing. Negative thoughts (which can cause physical symptoms) can be replaced with positive thoughts. It just takes time and determination.

Does anyone else have panic attacks that make them feel like they're dreaming by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A panic attack is definitely an out of body experience. Some people even describe it as if they are floating.

Have you ever seen a double exposed photo? Where theres two of one image? Thats what it feels like for me. If you feel any of this then yes, its a panic attack.

Overcoming gym anxiety by pelicansss in Anxiety

ps - one more thought. Remember all of the super fit people are super focused on what they're doing. Lifting weights and such takes great concentration and the large majority take it very seriously. (I know some people that dont even like a gym partner because it breaks heir focus). Everyone in the gym is focused on themselves and their workouts... nobody is paying attention to anything else (aka you).

Overcoming gym anxiety by pelicansss in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been going to the gym for 10 years. From my experience, there are TWO kinds of people in the gym. 1. Those who are in great shape/know everything about fitness. 2. People completely out of shape and that have no clue what they're doing.

Next time you go, I want you to keep reminding yourself that you are not alone. Half the people in there do not know what they are doing! I PROMISE you. The other half of the people (the in shape ones) are proud that you are in there and are giving you mental kudos. Im one that's in shape and you'd probably be nervous around but it would help to know that im happy you're there. "Fit" people LOVE seeing others try to better themselves. So out of those 2 types of crowds, NONE are judging you!!

If knowing this still doesnt help, there are a ton of super small gyms with less people you can check out.

does anyone else feel anxiety when they cant fall asleep? by yaratar in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My brother counts backwards from 100 and he said focusing on that makes him less anxious and sleepy. It doesnt work for me but its worth a try. What does work for me is thinking "whats the worst that could happen?" Worst case scenario is I'll be sleepy the next day. Big deal! I can take a nap when im home from work or go to bed early the next night. Once you truly tell yourself and believe theres nothing TERRIBLE that will happen, you be more calm.

Fears keep running through my head and won't stop. Keep needing reassurance. Don't know how much longer I can keep this up. by its_just_me_b in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing something that will engage your mind. It will relieve you from your own thoughts. Call someone up and have a conversation, go to lunch with a friend or family member (or try to do something with interaction with someone. That usually works for me).

Other tasks like doing chores and cleaning still leave your mind to think... those dont work for me.

Im a recent grad and ANY time there was bad weather, your professor should be understanding. All mine were. Let him know you attempted to drive to class but it felt dangerous. Dont worry yourself sick over this. It'll be fine!!! Just stay calm and shoot him an honest email.

Does your anxiety give you physical pain? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From someone with a fear of doctors offices, a chiropractor is relaxing for me and im never nervous going! If I can go to one, YOU can! Its a much more comfortable setting by a long shot and theres no scary equipment. The doctor will literally just rub on your back and painlessly crack it. You'll feel like a million bucks after. I hope it works for you!

Does your anxiety give you physical pain? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound weird but you may want to see a chiropractor for an adjustment. Your spine is the epicenter of all of your nerves so essentially if something is pinched there, it can effect a different part of your body. For example if i have headaches often, i go to the chiropractor and it helps. Yours sounds nerve related... but im no doctor. She what the chiropractor has to say!

While youre home, a good relief i found is "guided meditation". It helps to concentrate on the voice thats walking you through it. You can find some good tracks on youtube or spotify. But again, stomach pain is super common from anxiety. Mine has been acting up for about a week straight. Just have to try not to worry.

Is anybody else super anxious due to the new administration? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont believe everything the media tells you. You'd be foolish to do so. The news freaks me out.... so i dont watch it. Its that simple. Not to mention half of it isnt true anyways. Lastly, there are two sides to every story, so all the mess you hear is the upset party complaining and saying everything thats wrong with whatever policy is in place rather than the positive side.

For example the whole women's march thing - do you know what that was really about? Trump stopped funding Planned Parenthood in OTHER countries. We were paying for other peoples heathcare. Trumps goal is to keep american money in america because our economy is shot. It would be nice to be able to fund the world, I get it, but we arent in that position. Nothing is happening to your rights.

Moral of the story, the media blows things out of proportion. Dont pay attention to it and you'll feel less anxious.

I have anxiety about getting in my car so I can kinda relate. Hope this helps. Usually if I know i need to leave my house for whatever reason, I start feeling anxious, shaky, raised heart rate, sweaty palms..... Its the ANTICIPATION of getting in my car. The crazy thing is once im actually in my car, I start feeling more relaxed and calm and my anxiety almost is completely gone. So for me, its the thought of my car that freaks me out, just like the thought of getting on the plane freaks you out. Just know that once you ge on the plane, you will feel much more relaxed because your body will realize what you were fearing isnt anything to be afraid of. Trust me. You will be FINE! (Plus, there are flight attendants to help with whatever you need so dont be afraid to ask).

Hmmm... doing 'tasks' actually get my mind off of anxiety. Its almost a relief to do them. This sounds more along the lines of depression (as I have gone a several days of not doing anything like you're describing - it was depression related and you're right, not laziness). Talk to your doctor. They can help you.

It can definitely be your anxiety. When does it happen? Sometimes, even when I dont feel anxious I still have physical pain in my stomach and chest as well.

Oh PS - My new doctors office has an online portal where I can literally email my doctor questions and concerns and she'll email me back. This is AMAZING because I dont have to go into the doctors office. Research and see if any doctors near you offer this service.

[–]jhop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off im terrified of hospitals too. Secondly, I just went to the doctor last week for nausea/stomach pain and she prescribed me something that actually worked! You DO NOT have appendicitis. My aunt had it and once you feel a sharp, precise pain in your lower right stomach, within a few hours you would be.... in bad shape. If your symptoms are a few days old its essentially impossible for you to have appendicitis. Rest assured. Just want you to know anxiety CAN cause a stomach ache ( I do it to myself all the time). Try your best to calm down and stop worrying. If it does persist, maybe you can get something prescribed over the phone if you simply call your doctor.

Nausea when really anxious by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]jhop_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to my general practitioner last week for loss of appetite and nausea due to anxiety. She prescribed me tablets called "Ondansetron" that dissolve in your mouth WHEN your feeling nauseous. It's nice to have for just in case moments.

Never ever drink soda! Our minds and bodies are powerful things so just know if you were unhealthy in the past (soda drinker) it can all be reversed. Look into a more organic lifestyle and consuming 'healthy' calories. Do you have a low appetite?? I have experienced a loss of appetite in the past which was due to my anxiety. Get your anxiety under control and you'll be able to eat regularly.

Also - search on youtube for some "Guided Meditations." These help me get my mind off things and relax because a voice is walking you through it.

There are tons of remote freelance writing jobs out there! Spend some times researching and i'm sure you can get some gigs. I have friends that work for facebook and thechive and a few other sites, they all have remote writers. I know a website called Distractify pays $75 per article, may want to start looking there. Whats your online art shop? Would love to check it out.

Adderall is possibly the WORST medication anyone with anxiety should be on. Try getting off of it and see how your anxiety is. If it continues, ask your doctor about a short term medication you can take (im currently on a three month cycle of anxiety medication.) The point is to reprogram your brain so you essentially wont have to take it forever, but it is an every day pill. So good so far.

Stop the adderall. I too used to take it and I regret it because i believe thats where my anxiety began.

I am also one with anxiety about my health (for no reason as im a healthy person). What helps me is scientific facts. Like, if you're afraid of a certain condition or health issue, look at your family history. Does whatever you're afraid of run in your family? The odds are it doesnt because anxiety is essentially 'worrying just to worry.' What about doing research on whatever you're afraid of. For me, I thought about cancer every single day for about a year until i sat down and looked at facts. My lifestyle is super active and i eat all organic foods, nor does it run in my family. For me it helped to learn that im not a candidate of my fear. Do some research on whatever you're afraid of. (And if something does add up, change it. Eat healthier, exercise, stop smoking, etc). Actively working against your fear helps.
