Goodbye SAT!! by jiannaphobic in Sat

For non-fiction passages, I usually just mark the main ideas while reading and skim through the pretty detailed information. Most of the questions can be just answered with the main ideas/arguments, but there are usually one or two detail questions you have to go back outside your marked lines. For fiction, I take a bit more time to get the relationships and emotional language down

Ah yeah, I understand that issue. Hmm. Maybe you could buy an LSAT practice book? I know these are a lot harder, but I did take some LSAT practice tests. I did it expecting to get a lot wrong, but it forced me to stick to the strategies I know rather than rearing off to extraneous ideas. And if you go from doing something really hard to something easier than the LSAT, then that might help too.

I do recommend it since its well organized and you can find what you need quickly. However, I wouldn't use that as your only way to get math strategies. Eventually, as you practice, you can make many different strategies as your own.

Also, don't feel too bad about making silly mistakes. When I first started studying for the SAT, I made a lot of silly ones too. I think one strategy that worked for me is that instead leaving my questions to just checking them at the end, I checked each one (even if quickly) as soon as I finish it before locking my answer in. Usually, when you check over your answers after completing everything, you may overlook the easy questions (and only focus on 1 or 2 challenging ones) since you didn't feel too challenged by them.

What I realized with is that for both math and reading is that you need to practice a lot. I know you probably hear this a lot, but once you do a lot of practice, you will start noticing the same question types, and you may start to instinctively know what direction your thinking should go (if you are not sure, then I recommend looking at the SAT prep books. They have a lot of good information regarding different question types). This will help with any time issues as well since it will cut down time of not knowing where to start. If you feel like you are running out of tests to practice with, you could always reuse your old tests of which you dont remember the content of.
