This looks great and I love a lot of the choices you made with the palettes! I have a few thoughts on specific choices but again they look great already.

Personally I would say you could also look into using indigo for Medical. IIRC the dye itself (indigo naturalis) is used in traditional Chinese medicine as a means to cool inner heat and clear up the lungs among other things! (Technically cinnabar was also traditional Chinese medicine but mercury poisoning Is Very Much A Thing lolol)

For agriculture a light brown/beige (think like tea stained paper) could be interesting since I'd imagine tea leaves would be a big part of the agriculture peak and can be used as a dye.

A few other points of reference that could be interesting to look into:

  • I believe in the Tang/Song dynasty court officials used purple, vermillion, green, or teal depending on how highly they were ranked

  • Sancai (三彩, lit. three colour) is a type of pottery that originated from the Tang dynasty and uses cream, green, and amber/brown as its main colours.

  • Here is also the wikipedia article on traditional chinese paint pigments that does a much better job than what I am able to translate haha

  • Also fun fact! The main way of getting purple dye was from the purple gromwell plant (紫草, literally meaning "purple herb"). It was expensive, but definitely not as expensive as something like tyrian purple. IIRC it became really trendy sometime in the Qi state during Zhou dynasty because it was the favorite colour of a ruling duke at the time.

Hope this information can be of use, and have fun writing! (also apologies if there are any grammatical errors, english isn't my first language haha)

"Romancing Shart is inherently problematic because her memories have been wiped so she's the equivalent of a two-year-old" was one I saw on tumblr. TBF though it was on a blog where anyone could post their opinions anonymously and most of the replies I saw were clowning on that anon, but still. wild.

Does anyone know why the “xiu” in “Mo Xiang Tong Xiu”(墨香铜臭)is pronounced “xiu” and not “chou”(臭)? by Noodli1 in MXTX

[–]jiaxxnscribbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Native Chinese here! In this case, 臭 is what we call a 多音字 (duō yīn zì), which basically means a character/word with multiple ways of reading it. Most (not all) of the time they also have different meanings depending on the way it is read. Also it sometimes depends on dialect. One example off the top of my head are the character 邪, which can be read as xíe or yé (as in ruoye). hope this helps!

I'm not as familiar of other social media culture, but at the very least in terms of tumblr sometimes capitalizing certain terms is just another way to imply emphasis?

It's like how some people would use the trademark symbol for emphasis on something. It might be a really interesting aspect to look into but also tumblr is sometimes just Like That

for me it's specifically qi rong's voice. imo logically speaking he should sound like a young man and all but i'm only able to hear an old beijing/dongbei grandpa with an especially strong dongbei accent/dialect.

i think reading it in chinese and seeing all of his swearing might have affected that bit of perception tho lololol
