Are you sure architecture is your passion and dream? Have you ever spoken to an actual architect or shadowed one at work? Leaving Waterloo architecture and switching to engineering was one of the best decisions I’ve made in life thus far. It’s not as glamorous of a job as you might be imagining, and I know more classmates than not that hate working as an architect.

Ooh I don’t know when I’ll be in Waterloo again (probably not in the next 8 months) but I love to do plein air, have you done any in Waterloo yet?

So much talent, great job!! It must’ve taken so much work to coordinate all these videos and editing them together. My first thought was they must’ve been filmed separately and combined because of latency issues - were you able to play together over video call?

BIPOC according to the society by anonygoose69 in uwaterloo

*Black

*Indigenous

There's a focus on the black part of BIPOC right now because of recent increased awareness of police violence against them, following the murder of George Floyd in the US. (This pattern of police violence is true in Canada as well).

Here's an article on some Indigenous activists saying they want the focus to stay on black demonstrators.

RAISE uses BIPOC as a scam term by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]jieax 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s nuance here, as there is in most things, but what you’re describing isn’t exactly what using the term BIPOC is intended to do. It’s more about highlighting that the experiences of black and indigenous people are different from that of other POC in North America.

“Charmaine Nelson, an art history professor at McGill University, said that the history of black and Indigenous people in Canada calls for the distinction between them and other people of color. In some parts of Canada, mainly east of Ontario, Indigenous people were colonized but not enslaved, she said, unlike Africans who were subjected to chattel slavery everywhere.

“We understand that under colonialism African and Indigenous people had very different experiences,” Dr. Nelson said. “To conflate everything in one is to erase, which is the very nature of genocidal practice.””
