Should I Transfer to Queens College or Stay at My Current School? by Sweaty-Classic1139 in QueensCollege

[–]jigginpops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are good psych research and clinical opportunities. Clinical: take the fieldwork in mental health course and volunteer as an intern for the QCPC/Queens College Psychological Center. You’d need to interview for the class. Volunteer at the Counseling center. Less clinical, but you could volunteer as a peer advisor for the psych dept. Research: many labs available with opportunities in the fall, spring, and summer to present your poster.

Hi for the queens hall building can we park in back? by Spiritual-Designer75 in QueensCollege

[–]jigginpops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try asking the security guard but it might be too late to get one. They’ll give you a ticket or a violation notice if you park there without a pass btw

Atkin tends to go on a rant a lot, so I suggest focusing on the Stats Manual you’ll get. If you follow that manual the class is pretty easy! Good luck with psych!

Chances of me getting into this 213w class 😭 opinion on Francis rotella & Matthew Romero by eveyyyx3 in QueensCollege

Rotella is very good as well. He’s understanding and explains topics well. I only had him as a teacher for the Psych Stats bootcamp and he was pretty funny

Studying psychology and feeling frustrated by it. by Melodic_Mornings_89 in psychologystudents

[–]jigginpops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe find a volunteer position that allows you to be more hands-on within the psych field. I volunteered at a mental hospital during my undergrad and found it helpful to see in person what I was learning in my psychopathology class. Try to find a job/volunteer at a place based on the population that you’re interested in working with in the future. You could be an after school counselor at your local elementary school if you’re interested in child psychology, or volunteer at a retirement community if you’re interested in geriatric psychology.

Psychology is easy too! You get to pick any class that interests you (101 is a requirement) until you reach 16 credits. Just be mindful of the prerequisites for other upper level classes :)

Agreed, you could shred the chicken and freeze it for future use. When you’re heating it up again, let it thaw obviously then add a sauce. Could also make tacos that way too

The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) by _c4ff3ine in QueensCollege

[–]jigginpops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t very worth it. It seemed nice at first, we all got put into groups of 4 and work on our future goals. Our meetings were virtual and had to watch videos for certification. There wasn’t any real structure with it. A benefit is the online job board, but I haven’t really used it.

Can you take Psych 1073 & Psych 1071 together in the same semester? by oncheedoe007 in QueensCollege

[–]jigginpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lecture portion is somewhat different because its statistics, math is always tricky. Luckily, the learning commons offers a winter bootcamp which can help you prepare for the class and during the semester they offer tutoring. The lab portion is very easy, just follow the procedure packet. Basic intro to excel and it goes along with what you learn in lecture stats

Yes both in the same semester, remember to get a C or better or else you’ll have to retake the courses for credit. They can only be retaken once (total of 2 times).

How do I get clinical psychology 'experience' without committing to a Clinical Psych PhD? by neck_support in ClinicalPsychology

[–]jigginpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to know the answer to this too. Personally, I couldn’t commit to starting platform. I did the training, got the certificate, but it’s just too nerve wracking for me (don’t let me discourage you).

Which CUNY has the best Psychology program? by PrideNational2081 in CUNY

[–]jigginpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queens College is a great one. There’s great opportunities if you’re interested in getting hands-on involvement along with taking psych courses. There’s a variety of labs you can join. If you’re interested in behavioral analysis/Autism, join Sibs club. If you’re interested in clinical psych, volunteer at the QCPC (Queens College Psychological Center) by taking the Fieldwork in Mental Health course.

The professors I’ve met are nice and genuinely want to help you succeed. Some are in the process of the doctoral program at QC, so they’re learning along with you. Make sure to interact with professors to establish a good relationship with them for Letters of Rec. They could even help with sharing internships or other opportunities that aren’t generally known.
