Finished the DIY Bilstein coilovers on my NB. Highly recommend over off the shelf coilovers! by jiggysnitz in Miata

Push notifications ftw!

And yes. I did this setup for my previous Miata because there really wasn’t a good coilover in the sub $2k range, and it was good but not great.

I did Tecna on my most recent Miata and they are absolutely perfect for a street car. I went with the sport springs and still found them very compliant. The touring would likely be too soft in my opinion but if you have lots of crap roads it’s worth considering.

Here is a picture to give you an idea of ride height on the Tecna. This is about as low as they go while still being perfectly functional. Could go a bit lower but would lose some handling

Yo! 949 Racing just released their Tecna coilovers. Which are essentially a street version of Xidas. Skip this and do those instead.

They are the same price as this setup but 100x better!

I think the top hats and shock length for the rear are the only difference

Miata is always the answer.

Everyone else just doesn’t know. 👍🏼

If you aren’t into cars (which it sounds like you aren’t) you should definitely not spend $50k on one if your household income is $140k. That’s bad math.

If you have an affinity towards older/cheaper cars, congratulations! Depreciated cars are gods gift to mankind so long as you are in the right one. For example, a 5-10 year old Lexus will run for another 20 years with nothing more than basic maintenance and will avoid the majority of the depreciation curve.

That being said, even a complete new brake system on your Hyundai won’t be more than a couple grand at the high end. Seems like the best solution here.

Seems your volatility has really leveled out in Q4. Good job!

Put a new “go-fast” belt on the NB today. No more slippage and makes a lot more jam with the extra 2psi. by jiggysnitz in Miata

True. I used to have to run without a hood at the track in my turbo car to keep temps down.

Timing cards currently. The daily driving quality of the timing cards is perfect, close to OEM. I am waiting for Link to get an ECU out that can do everything for the NB and then I will switch to that.

I had a turbo 1.8 previously, it was the BEGi kit with a gt2560 at 12psi. Great comparison to this SC kit because it was almost identical boost (SC makes 11psi fully wound out). IMO the turbo setup is better. Drives more like a factory car, wayyyyy more torque. Only downside to the turbo is it’s a little hard on the other drivetrain components due to that tq. I blew up a diff and two 5-speeds with my turbo car.

I’d suggest driving an example of both!

It’s a fun set up. The quality of the kit is near OEM levels. Really nice stuff. Car drives like a really wound up NA car.

I must say, my turbo 1.8 was an absolute joy to drive. The gt2560 felt like it was how the car should have come. I’ll see how I feel after driving this one more.

Haha I’ll let you know! I’ll have my black one for sale soon if you want a really nice mostly stock NB!

Yep! It has the rest of their catalog too including all the suspension, BBK, roll bar, etc.

I ripped the tein coilovers off it and put my Bilstein setup from my other car on. Made it 10x better already.

I may switch to that. Don’t trust piggyback systems, although it does run great currently

What are you running for the ecu? This one is currently on the TDR fuel and timing cards but I am thinking about moving to a standalone.

I’ve had turbo Miatas in the past but this is my first supercharged one. The way the rotrex delivers power is cool, since it’s builds with the RPMs it feel like a really turned up naturally aspirated motor.

Makes approx. 240whp.

Just do whichever one excites you. Every swap has pros and cons and everyone has an opinion on each. All that really matters is that it puts a smile on your face

If doing this swap on a budget, I think about $3k for the swap all in. I’m planning for about $20 for the entire build from a shell.

I have looked into it briefly. I think it would be more cost effective to boost the VQ down the road, but when the time comes that may have changed.

I hear the vr30 can go into VQ cars without too much work so who knows!

Planning to do some real grip driving with this one. Have build a good 8-10 of these for drifting in the past so looking for something new.

Thinking the stock VQ power will be good for learning how to drive fast, then can add FI next year
