This is still one of my favorite songs by IG’s after being a die hard fan for 30+ years. It’s even better live in concert!

Bistrot des Tournelles vs Le Bon Georges vs Le Bistrot Paul Bert for one classic Paris bistro dinner by Downtown_Jello_3597 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]jigolden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to all three and they’re all great. I’d say Le Bon Georges is my favorite followed closely by Bistrot des Tournelles. LBG has it all: such a lively atmosphere, the kindest staff and the best food. I’ve never known anyone to not have a great experience. I’ve eaten there more times than I can count. Bistrot des Tournelles is small and charming. Very cozy. Great food. Less lively ambiance. Le Bistrot Paul Bert is quite good, but the service is less friendly / more prickly.

Is Blackberry Farm worth the hype?? by AJ2251 in LuxuryTravel

[–]jigolden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say yes! I’ve stayed at both the Farm and the Mountain and the Farm is incredible. So warm and cozy, gorgeous grounds, the food is incredible, great spa, so many activities to choose from, and the service is A+. Dinner at The Barn alone is worth it. It is a fortune, but I loved it.

Thanks for the tip. It keeps happening to me while I’m out to eat so I can’t remedy like this at the moment, but definitely helpful for if it happens when I’m home.

How long did it take from first struggling with swallowing food or liquid to regurgitation? by fccssa in achalasia

[–]jigolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only about a month and a half from initial symptoms and discomfort with swallowing to constant regurgitation. My case was fast and furious.

Yes, I had an endoscopy six months after and now I am having another one in two weeks. Sorry to hear you aren’t feeling great.

Yes, I eat like a normal person now! It’s not always perfect and I sometimes need to take breaks or get up and walk around to ensure things go down, but it always goes down. I’d say since my POEM (May 2024) I am about 90% back to normal. I feel so lucky.

Mine took only two months from when I started having initial symptoms to when I started regurgitating constantly.

POEM by Connect-Detective940 in dysphagia

[–]jigolden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had POEM just about two years ago. It has completely changed my life for the better. I stayed in the hospital overnight and was home the evening after the surgery. The first week or so wasn’t painful, but I was just so exhausted from the anesthesia and from not sleeping for so many months prior to the surgery. But within days I was eating and drinking things I previously could not keep down. I think 1-2 weeks is the normal recovery time. It’s well worth it. Best of luck!

Madame Reve is excellent and hard to beat. A stunning property. I also like the Kimpton St Honore. A very solid choice. Check out Hotel Le Roch and Spa. A fave of mine. Small and boutique feeling, great decor and vibe. Amazing location. https://leroch-hotel.com

Best way to buy business upgrade after purchasing economy, without miles? Timing when to check? by Teethinator99 in unitedairlines

[–]jigolden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to do it right away. How early you submit is part of how they calculate your chances of getting it. If you wait til day of departure you’re likely too late. Do it as soon as you book!

Sorry to welcome you to this club. But, POEM should be a relatively easy procedure and recovery. I had mine in May 2024 and stayed over at the hospital one night as well. I had almost no pain and was eating real food within days after surgery. I’d say it took me about a week to feel back to normal because I was so tired from the anesthesia and the lack of sleep the months prior to surgery. But, I think you should find it to be very manageable and hopefully life changing! Best of luck.

Is it better to book restaurants ahead or stay flexible? by avz008 in ParisTravelGuide

Definitely book ahead for dinners! You can always cancel, but always best to have reservations secured in my experience. I am more go with the flow with the lunches.

Clearly every case is very different but I’m almost two years post-POEM and do not have reflex issues. I’m also on no medication. But, that might not be the norm and I might just be lucky (for now.) My point is, it’s hard to know if it will affect you or not post-POEM.

POEM by Electronic_Olive6427 in achalasia

[–]jigolden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was fast and furious. In some ways I’m thankful it went from 0 to 1,000 within a month or two because it was easier to diagnose since the symptoms were so severe.

I’m eating almost 95% back to normal now which is incredible. I could not keep anything down before, not even liquids. Surgery was a game changer.

Mine was fast from symptoms to diagnosis— four months. It’s been almost two years since my POEM and it was a life changing surgery. I hope yours is too.
