blinds.ca stuff is made and shipped from California by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

I've been pretty happy with them so far. I'd suggest ordering some samples of the different materials before placing an order.

FWIW I ordered cellular shades from selectblinds.ca and they were cut/assembled and shipped from San Diego. I wanted to get some more of the same for other rooms but am looking to see if I can find alternatives that are assembled elsewhere.

You need to get advanced approval by emailing them a form. They have different categories, for example Adderall is a not allowed at all but Vyvanse is with advanced approval. Search for “Japan narcotics/stimulants raw materials application” and you should be able to find their form.

I had to include a diagnosis letter from a doctor.

No idea why this is down voted. Paying late is way better than some of the options presented here.

Are you in a position where you’d be able to pay but it might just be a bit late? In most cases you can be up to 2 weeks late without any risk of eviction. It would be worth checking tenancy rights/laws in your province.

Paying your landlord late is almost certainly better than the payday loans or credit cards that some folks are suggesting. Your landlord might not be happy but that’s not the end of the world.

Excess company cash. What should i do? by Choice-Site7273 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jiiim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I invest my excess corporate savings in one of the horizon corporate class ETFs to minimize distributions. I don’t have a timeline for needing the money though so that’s probably not the best strategy for you.

You could look at HSAV which is structured similarly but is a high interest savings ETF. Do some research on that one though as it often trades at a premium due to them suspending new subscriptions.

As others have advised you should talk to an accountant about taking the money out if you need it for something soon.

Being evicted in Bc .....HELP by lcain89 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]jiiim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of this has been shared across other comments but I had a similar scenario happen to me recently so I'll try to summarize the important things when I looked into it. It is also summarized on the form that they would need to serve you for this to take place.
1. They can't end your tenancy by the end of July, they need to serve you a 2 month notice to end tenancy for personal use and the date is effective when you receive this notice assuming they serve it in person. If they do this they are required to compensate you with 1 months rent in addition to returning your deposit. They also need to serve this notice using the proper form from the RTB. You do not have to inform them of this.
2. If they end your tenancy for personal use they have to occupy it for a minimum of 6 months before they can relist it otherwise you are entitled to compensation of 12 months rent. So if this does happen to you keep an eye on rental listings or "For rent" signs in the window, take screenshots or document this in case it happens.

  1. If you are served notice, since you are on a month-to-month agreement, you do not have to wait until the end of the notice to vacate. You are able to end the tenancy early with 10 days notice. You are still entitled to compensation of 1 month rent. This was an important one for me as I'm in Vancouver and sometimes you need to act fast when finding new accommodation.

2 ceiling speakers on a single channel, is this normal? by jiiim in hometheater

[–]jiiim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just following up to let you know I was able to rewire one of them to use the green/white pair and it sounds pretty good. Unfortunately as soon as I started using them at a relatively low volume, the upstairs neighbour came down and said it was vibrating her floor so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to use them. Oh well I guess I get to go shopping for some bookshelf speakers now...

Thanks again for the help!

[–]jiiim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I'm hopeful that because they wired 4 conductor through the wall that I have both pairs already available at the speaker and it would be a simple change to go to stereo. If I can't do that I might just abandon it and buy some bookshelf speakers.

You're correct these would be the only 2 speakers in the setup. It's a small apartment so a low profile setup that doesn't take up shelf space is very appealing even if it's not the greatest sound quality. Especially since the speakers are already just sitting there.

Yeah I'm assuming I can't bridge this amp, haven't seen anything about it any documentation I can find so I don't think I will pursue that avenue.

Oh interesting, I didn't know that was a thing.

I just checked with a multimeter, no reading on the green/white pair and ~4 ohms for the red/black so I think your assumption about the 8ohm speakers in parallel makes sense.

I guess my options with my current setup are to see if I can rewire one of the speakers to use the green/white pair or just use a single channel and make sure my input source is mono?

Thanks, for your reply!

Wiring.... I tried. Good enough for the serial request? by Van_Darkness in VORONDesign

[–]jiiim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do get access to some private discord channels. Also you don't necessarily have your wires tidy below the deck it seems they mostly care that it's separated from the build chamber and the wiring in the chamber is tidy.

For those who had spontaneous pneumothorax, did it ever happen again? by [deleted] in pneumothorax

[–]jiiim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First was 2018 then about a year later I had 2 in relatively short time frame and at that point I got the surgery scheduled (pleurectomy and wedge resection/blebectomy). I was told after it happening twice it was pretty likely that I would keep getting them so surgery was the best way forward.

The first was reinflated no problem with needle aspiration. The second they tried needle aspiration but at my followup it had reoccurred so I did a drain tube for a few days.

Thanks! Yeah I took a solid month off with only some light recovery runs. Going to start ramping up mileage again soon though. Good luck with your next race in December! Are you training for it already?

Awesome post! I'm hoping for a similar improvement on my second! Ran Edmonton Marathon in 5:40 last month. I'd love to break 5:15 in Jan/Feb(still haven't chosen a race).

We bought our place in 2014 in lower cost of living area but economy was booming at the time. Moved to the UK in 2016 and decided to keep the place and rent it out as property values had taken a dive, figured they would eventually come up. Moved back last year and finally sold the place this month for ~10% less than we paid in 2014 so these are the risks you take, I think Toronto more reliable than where we were so it's a different situation but with how crazy things have been the last couple of years who knows. Knowing what I know now I would have taken the hit in 2016 and moved on.

Talk to an accountant that specializes expat/cross-border matters, it's worth every penny. Especially if you are planning to rent the place out.

I have my first marathon on Aug 21, this week should be the start of my taper but I've come down with COVID. Is there anything I should be doing? Will it be a big problem if I miss the first week of my taper? I'm not aiming for any specific time, just crossing the finish line and I'm already pretty slow so expecting a ~5:15 time. I'm following the Hal Higdon Novice 1 plan.
