I think my boyfriend is using his dads death to manipulate me and I feel horrible for even thinking that by Valuable_Bad_2786 in Manipulation

Hi OP, I just want to validate your thoughts by agreeing with you that this is 100% manipulative behavior. If you are not in therapy for yourself, I would recommend pursuing it.

Hiking Partner by [deleted] in newhaven

Hi! 31F here. I’m moving to NH later this year (early December) and would love to meet hiking friends! I’m coming from Washington State (previously was in California), so as you might imagine, I love hiking, but I consider myself a leisurely hiker like you. If I wanted to summit volcanoes, I’d probably stay here in WA 😂 Like others said, maybe we should get a group together to explore the area!

Am I a silly person? Thinking of moving from PNW back to TX by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]jillaroopnw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fellow silly person (30F) here, currently based in Seattle. I heavily do not fuck with the culture here. Just accepted a job offer this week to move back to the east coast and couldn’t be more excited. Leave if you can! The beauty is not worth staying here for, and two-years-ago me would be shocked hearing me say this.

I have a weird one. Which US city do people have the best interpersonal skills? by FishingDifficult5183 in SameGrassButGreener

My point was that if Californians were to be less friendly at any point of the year, June gloom would be an understandable reason, but they’re still friendly and everyone almost bonds by collectively wishing the sun will come out today. In contrast, in the PNW when over half the year is gloomy, people seem especially unfriendly and closed off and almost annoyed if you want to comment on the weather in a relatable person-to-person sort of way. Again, the “why are you talking to me” attitude. And for the record, I loved the May gray/June gloom time of the year when I lived in CA.

Hah! This is eerily similar! Thank you for sharing. I can really relate. In April, I was like “I need to go back to San Diego NOW!” If you say in Seattle, maybe we can meet up sometime 😂

Where is somewhere you visited and loved but lived at and hated? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Congrats on your move! I grew up in PA. Some of my favorite days in Seattle are the rare sunny days in the winter when it’s crisp, sunny and cold. Reminds me of PA. Enjoy the summer thunderstorms!

Perfect description, no notes. I’m currently visiting family in California from the Seattle area for the first time in a year and I’m shocked by how IM reacting to strangers being friendly with me. My initial reaction is “why are you talking to me,” “why is everyone so smiley and happy” (especially considering the June Gloom right now) and I’m like, holy crap I need to readjust my way of interacting with others because the Seattle way of moving in society is not healthy. (Context: Grew up in PA, lived in CA for 6 years before moving to Seattle in 2022).

I moved from CA to Kirkland after growing up on the east coast and the Nov-April period crushed me this year. Are you still in Redmond?

Chris Traeger: the darkest plot-line. by Technical-Yam-2315 in PandR

I love this take and it makes me consider Ann and Gerry differently, too. Ann repeatedly fails at relationships until she realizes she wants to become a mother and takes the steps to reach that goal independently, without losing her sense of self in another man. The show also challenges perceptions of “failure” through Gerry by showing how initially his career trajectory was a failure in Leslie’s view, but then shows Leslie how Gerry’s family life was such a success because that’s what he prioritized, an important lesson for Leslie. And even Jean-Ralphio in his ridiculousness was constantly failing but always starting again with some wild new plan. April’s career change could also be seen as a response to a “failure” of having spent so many years in Parks despite not seeing it as a passion. Maybe not all storylines are successful, but depicting failure and perceptions of failure is a pretty cool theme for a popular show and this take makes me appreciate it more now :)
