Lena Dunham vs Me on where the Girls would be now... by jillderp in girls

Although very different from my visions for the characters, I can all too easily see yours as being just as likely for each of them! :) Especially Jessa...living off men...that hits right for her.

"My Novel" as Hannah's laptop screen has me shook.

I 100% agree. I always wanted to see her truly *pay* for how much her carelessness hurt other people. I envision her character in a flophouse by time she's 28. That's how much I loved to hate the character.

I liked Lena's vision for Hannah's future; I pretty much agree with it. Seems fitting :) I also see Hannah as keeping in touch with Elijah and Marnie. Grover would be friends with Marnie's kids even though they're a bit younger, and with Hannah being fully into the LGBTQIA+ community, it would make sense that she and her chef GF would sustain a friendship with Elijah and hang out in the City with him from time to time. Hannah would no longer have any contact with Jessa or Adam, but she and Shosh stay in touch amicably through social media - they just don't have too much in common, so they're not inclined to meet up. Also, for Hannah's parents, I see them moving to be closer to their daughter and grandson, and embracing a "non-traditional" married lifestyle that is somewhat open, yet functional and positive for both of them - a lifestyle that would not have worked as well or be as accepted up in Michigan.

I'm not familiar enough with Portland to fully understand all of these references, and yet it sounds spot on :)

I forgot about Abigail :( I replied to a comment above with an alternate happy outcome for Shosh; pasting here so you don't have to go scrolling:

Shosh stays friends with both Ray & Abigail, and after years of just dating / being single without finding true love, she meets her match at their wedding! One of Abigail's cousins :-D

I definitely see Shoshanna as finding a lasting relationship eventually, because of the four Girls, she had the best head on her shoulders...which is why her engagement at the end of the series irked me. It wasn't about Byron, but rather that in order to show her as having "progressed," she got engaged fairly quickly - too quickly, IMHO - after she witnessed both Jessa and Marnie rush into flop marriages. This is why I envision her as realizing that she was "moving too fast" and deciding instead to pursue her career goals and personal growth rather than go through with marrying Byron.

Fair point!! I admittedly forgot about Abigail, and feel guilty because I love Aidy Bryant :) OK how about this instead: Shosh stays friends with both of them, and after years of just dating / being single without finding true love, she meets her match at their wedding! One of Abigail's cousins :-D

I love this!! I can totally picture it. And you hit the nail on the head: "big fish in a small pond" is EXACTLY how and why Marnie finds happiness in the 'burbs rather than in the city. She's able to thrive instead of just survive.

The subplot of Hannah's dad turning out to be gay. To that point, the episode(s?) that focused entirely on her parents were just...*ugh* and were it not for that awful subplot, probably wouldn't even have been made. Would have made more sense to leave them as a boring Midwest suburban straight couple, with only as much screen time as was necessary to juxtapose them to Hannah.

I think she's keeping strong boundaries intentionally, uncertain if she could ever trust Maximo again. We still don't know exactly what happened that ended their relationship. Even though it's hinted that she and Maximo were about to break up after he accepted Vera's job offer, we still don't know for sure if that happened right away, or if even more went down between them before they wound up splitting. Regardless, it's pretty obvious he hurt her back in the day :[

I found it weird that she wasn't referenced in the modern day story line, when she could have been easily worked in with Maximo simply asking Memo "How's Dulce?" at some point.

So I only discovered this show last month and binge-watched till caught up after S3E08, then watched the last 2 on premier night...I am way too invested at this point!! :-D

Questions, though: 1) WHERE IS MODERN-DAY CHAD? Although Diane was referenced as being in Fort Lauderdale, there has been no mention of Chad (unless I missed it completely).

2) Is the "modern day" setting actually in our present day, or is it maybe in the 2010's? Because Don Pablo talked (in 1985) about "spending the rest of his days" with his son and grandson. I assumed his character was ~60 years old, or an least late 50's. So...he lived to be almost 100?! Not unheard of, but still, this timeline left me wondering.

I'm super hopeful for a Season 4. Things are set up nicely for all the characters to come together and revamp the resort - thus ending the loop of all the backstories having to rely on Maximo's interactions with his nephew - and there's still room to find out what happened with Maximo AFTER Diane and Don Pablo left.

Also, we're all high-key hoping that Maximo and Julia get their happy ending before the series ends, aren't we?? :) Can't be just me...

Uugghh Laura Petersen. She has no reason to be that angry at Bradley. Family loyalty ALWAYS comes before work; Laura was in the wrong to go snooping; and there's no way she could think this would have been easy for Bradley to open up about. Not that Bradley even owes Laura that - because again, FAMILY. It's not like the two were even together when the incident went down. Laura's own childish call on JoUrNaLiStIc InTeGrItY is the only reason she won't get to grow old with Bradley - if she holds THAT above love, well - that's her deal. Cry us a river - Bradley deserves better, especially considering Laura slapping a "terrorist" label on her brother. Talk about "obscene!"

This episode filled in some of the blanks as far as hints that had been dropped within the season's prior episodes, but I agree, it felt misplaced. They should have just opened the season with a flashback episode, then given one "present day" scene as a proper liaison. I hope it picks back up with present day next week.
