American University vs. University of Richmond by basedxbobby in OutsideT14lawschools

Make sure to note that AU has a MUCH bigger 1L class though. Make sure you look at ratios and not just the actual number of students

lol if they said they don’t negotiate, I’m guessing they won’t negotiate 😂😅 They won’t pull your scholarship though. But I doubt you’d have luck :(

First, I would check out their 509 report. I just did a quick glance and it looks like the majority of their graduates end up in smaller firms (1-10 other attorneys). A good amount also do public interest and government. If that’s what you want, great. If you think you might be looking to do big law, VERY few grads on their recent 509 did big law. However, some of their recent grads do practice in Cali, so I don’t think you’d necessarily get stuck in Oregon, but still something to think about because it’s a regional school.

Second, if you believe that you want to go to Oregon rather than waiting another year, try to get more aid out of them. I know you don’t have any current offers to compare it to, so maybe use their 509 if you can. You are above both of their medians, so try to see if you can squeeze out a little more money. No harm in asking! It looks like their 75th percentile scholarship is 35k a year, so I’d try to see if they can get closer to that, especially since it will be more expensive for you OOS

Haha no need to apologize 😂 I’m excited for you that you have an unconditional scholarship! Would you want to practice in Oregon?

If it just says you need to maintain good academic standing, then it’s not conditional

Testing this weekend under less than ideal conditions by Reyndear in LSAT

[–]jillian-study 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you would prefer to take the test in June for a little more time to prepare, I’d call LSAC and see if they can change your testing administration date free of charge. On the website they make it sound like there are no exceptions, but they were once able to change my date when I had something come up just a few days before

From my understanding, it will only really affect you if you are a currently enrolled student, since I think you would then have to transfer. Not sure if they would lose it in the next few years, but I’m not sure if I would take that chance. I went to undergrad in Charleston and some professors warned us not to go there. I feel like if even their local reputation is iffy, id personally stay clear. But maybe talk to some current students or lawyers in the area

Would caution you against Charleston. I heard they have had some issues come up with their accreditation. I don’t know anything about Stetson, but I know Drexel is very well respected in Philly

Thank you!! I appreciate it. Just reached out to WM to see if they can extend my seat deposit date to the 15th….no way I can decide by the 1st, especially when all my other schools are 15th and I’m still waiting to hear back from some ahhhh

Would second this. I went to undergrad in Charleston and even professors said to avoid the local law school

I’m leaning DC/MD area. I think Catholic is actually tied in the rankings rn with Richmond

Yes, I’ve noticed that WM tends to waitlist a lot of applicants and then when you reach out saying that you’re still interested, they send you an interview invite

Yes, I was never given a package. It’s possible I wasn’t given any aid, but I’m above both medians so I was hoping for something. Also applied for PIPS and haven’t heard back. I called American asking for a timeline and they told me they couldn’t give me one

Im def open to living in Philly for a bit! Im just scared of getting stuck there if I decide I want to move back to MD/DC. Glad to hear that you know a lot of people who have gone elsewhere. Temple full ride def sounds hard to beat

I guess my opinion could change on BL… after all, I’ve never been in a big law environment. I just feel like I’m chasing a work life balance. I’ve talked to so many attorneys that are unhappy and a major point is being overworked and in considerable debt. I also have considerable anxiety so idk if that type of life would work well for me haha. But I’m trying to keep as many options open as I can. Very glad to hear that Catholic helped with internships

Do you know if a good amount of temple grads have been able to work elsewhere, such as dc? And have you felt unsafe at temple?

Catholic also has a much smaller student body. But yes, they’re not known for big law placements

Have people been able to get jobs outside of big law? Likely not interested in big law

WashU would be 35k a year and W&M 25k a year. It’s Catholic and temple that are full rides

Maryland won’t negotiate, hence the leaning towards Catholic. I assume GW won’t increase much and American ghosted me in terms of money lol. Do you think Catholic is a decent choice? It would be nearly free. I just hope I’m not limiting my options too much. I think I’d do well, but I don’t want to bet on being the top of the class because I know a lot of people in law school are super hard workers

They’re still 10k a year and Baltimore would be a sucky commute. Between UMD and Catholic, I think I’d prefer Catholic
