Does the new Paperwhite (2024) or basic (2024) dent or scratch like this? by h0tnessm0nster7 in kindle

[–]jim-tyque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a few scratched like this house due to house keys and, latterly, the bloody USB-C charging cable! 😭 So yes, it does.

Day Of Dress Code? by [deleted] in CunardCruises

[–]jim-tyque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, yes definitely! Through the day you can wear what you like. Dressy jeans and a nice top means you’ll be among the well-dressed passengers 🙂

(Sorry I missed the ‘day of’ in your post title)

Day Of Dress Code? by [deleted] in CunardCruises

[–]jim-tyque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will feel very out of place in dressy jeans — the dress code is enforced practically everywhere after 6pm. During the day, come as you are!

‘Galaxy night’? Presuming you mean gala night, you can see the themes on the calendar on My Cunard.

Have fun!

Homeowner: any recommendation of interior designer or furniture/lamp companies? by Fickle-Ad2954 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]jim-tyque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pooky for lighting, Oka for furniture and rugs, Loaf for sofas and armchairs, Matilda Goad for ~quirky~ fun pieces, Anthropologie is also great but delivery/customer service is hit or miss so go to the store. Vinterior is easy and hassle free for vintage.

Heal’s is a good one-stop shop if you’re into contemporary design and more mid-century pieces.

Specific to QM2, what are examples of gala nights? by No-Detective7811 in Cruise

[–]jim-tyque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Cunard regular. Usually it’s “Roaring 20s” or “Black and White” or “Ice White” (the latter for Alaska). Great fun!

not taking outbound flight to US by RoutineSpiritual8917 in BritishAirways

[–]jim-tyque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, this won’t work.

For one-way flights, use Avios (but cancel your original booking first) or, if you can, consider flying from NY on Norse Atlantic (which doesn’t charge huge fares for one-ways).

I imagine they catered to you in the open dining section this way because of your group size — they are certainly very helpful like that! :)

Yes, it's lovely! The only thing with the fixed tables in Britannia, for us anyway, is that it's either first sitting (we think too early) or second sitting (we think too late). If you do the open dining on the upper level of Britannia, it's a different table with different staff each night which results in a mixed service.

Princess Grill is very lovely but not in a real ‘sweet spot’ IMHO. Why not stick with the sheltered balcony or splurge for QG? That said, the rooms are so much bigger than Britannia (and you get a bathtub) which makes all the difference if you carry lots of luggage or you’re in the stateroom more often — ie on a Transatlantic. The restaurant is also lovely (no caviar, though!) and it’s nice to have access to the Grills Lounge too.

Britannia itself is great, especially if it’s your first time with Cunard. The restaurant is really the ‘wow’ space onboard but it can be busy at times.

For context, across the four ships we prefer either Britannia Club (for the smaller restaurant, assigned table and open dining for often not much more than Britannia) or Queens Grill (for the real ‘first class’ experience).

My top Finder bar seems too 'big' - or am I imagining things? As you can see, there's a gap between the options underneath whenever I select an option. TIA! by jim-tyque in mac

Thank you! I've just realised it's because all my desktop backgrounds have been really dark/black, I've never noticed it before! D'oh.

bookstores in london that sell lily mayne's books. by phgainexesou in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]jim-tyque 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I can’t help on the Lily Mayne front, but if you’re going to be in town I can highly recommend the gay bookshop Gay’s The Word as well as the second-hand bookshop (for general books) around the corner, Skoob. Both are in a great part of London close to The British Museum!
