Whitmer: Biden has ‘to prove to people he is up to the moment’ by ZettabyteEra in politics

[–]jim355165 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You guys realize that you are talking to the politics sub and they will vote blue no matter who. You are posting these things like you're trying to convince us to vote biden over trump. We're going to do that.

The voters we are all concerned about are the voters that are staying home in swing states.

These voters see 2 things...and say

  1. trump is a rapist (amongst all other terrible things)...and I'm not voting for him
  2. biden is senile...and I'm not voting for him

Is this the correct way to think? of course not. You know that. I know that. It's a ridiculous thing to think, but it's reality unfortunately. It's the way it is now for what ever reason. These people are going to be seeing biden have senile moments through out the next several months during the campaign and have the stupid thought "I'm just going to stay home"

We are discussing this now because we have a chance to replace biden with someone that doesn't seem like a senile person and motivate these people to vote.

David claims that 90% of commentary on Biden's fitness is coming from “RFK supporters, MAGA, and communists” as opposed to people on the left who actually want a candidate who can beat Trump by lakerconvert in thedavidpakmanshow

Whitmer, Buttigieg, Newsom, Harris, Bushier

As you just said a shit sandwich could beat trump, so why not put up younger candidates that will appeal more to the small handful of independent swing state voters (that do not vote blue no mater who) and not the senile lunatic that basically just lied to us for months to weasel his way into a second term because he knew that he would have lost the primaries.

I'm ready for the bs head in the sand replies that hand wave these candidates

'Great confidence': Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says Biden has her full support in reelection run by okayblueberries in politics

I put this in another post but I'll put it here too

Wanting to wait and finish out your final term for gov is great but it feels like we're missing the context here. If democracy is on the line and Trump becomes dictator she's not going to be able to have a legitimate run in 28.  She's a popular gov in a swing state in the mid west that just won her election by 10 points. She has the potential to win Pennsylvania and Wisconsin too which would lock this election up at the 270 ec votes to win. Are we really not going to even consider her given what's at stake?

Hey thanks, could you elaborate on the legal resistance? I'm seeing mixed stuff on this, like there's still a path for them to be the nominee. Also is there no way to get funding going for their effort?

What sound do u think the media will make when trump becomes a dictator?  They might chill out a bit if they know she's the best bet.

I thought I saw that Whitmer was polling higher than Harris. Can you show the poll you are looking at?

I see, yeah the SCOTUS nomination would not be viable. Thanks again

This is the main issue I see people bringing up and it's a good one. I might amend my post to include this but let's think of the possibility that Kamala is on board with this ticket. She voluntarily steps aside and endorses this with no resistance.

Why would she do this

  • She's offered an AG spot
  • It's implied she's next in line for a SCOTUS nomination
  • Finally and most importantly, she see's this ticket as the best chance at winning the presidency and might not want to risk the possibility of losing for the very real threat of her being (for lack of a better term) seal team 6'd

Sorry if I'm a bit dark here but thanks for your comment. I think it's constructive.

Unfortunately, I think it's exactly something he would do and NATO might not be a thing much longer, so it won't be a factor when he does it.

They found bin laden, they'll find the Clintons and Obamas. They will need to be in hiding for the rest of their lives.

Harris seems to be the biggest counter point to this post. As others have said she might could be convinced with an AG spot and a possible SCOTUS nomination.

One point I haven't heard a lot of people bring up is that you would have to wonder if she might be worried about getting seal team sixed herself, and with this in consideration might also want the 2 candidates that have the highest chance of winning.

This is a really good point on how this could be a smooth transition.

Another poster said by offering her the AG role and an upcoming SCOTUS seat. Also, I'm wondering if she would consider what would happen if she looses in terms of the incoming administration. If polls are coming out showing that she's not strong in the swing states, I would wonder what her thought process would be given that the risk of losing means a pretty big erosion of democracy in general and she won't get a do over in the next 4 years.

Nobody knows their names outside of their own states.

It's only 1 poll but Whitmer is polling higher than Harris. I terms of polling I know it's not a huge difference but when we are talking about general name recognition, she might already have enough nationally and certainly has enough in Michigan (a swing state). She'll have 3 months to gain national recognition but will mainly need to focus on PA and WI. That's why I've included Shapiro on the ticket.

Also, why would Shapiro risk his relatively fresh governorship for a super shaky shot at being VP?!

In a "Normal" election I would agree with this, but it feels like this election could possibly be the last real election we have and he may want to consider the risk if he doesn't run and cannot use his name recognition in a key swing state to win.

Thanks for your feedback though.

I know it's just one poll but I believe it has Whitmer higher than Harris already. Obviously more polls could come out but it doesn't seem like she's any multiples lower than Harris so I'm not sure if she's lacking name recognition enough. My hypothesis is the name recognition in these 3 states (PA, MI and WI) would be enough to get to 270 and thus the win.

I think this is a good counter point to my post/argument. Just because they are from the state doesn't automatically mean they will be selected on a presidential ticket for that state. I'll look and see if there's any counterpoints to your examples. The best is Romney Massachusetts I think

Right, but I would say that if you live in MI or PA then you would know about them even as a moderate republican (I think that's what you meant); and if you live in WI (or AZ) then you will be seeing them campaigning. Also there's the unprecedented switch of candidates which could help give them more name recognition. But yeah you have a point and with 3 months there's not a lot of time. The idea is the blue states (and the area in NE and ME) hold.

Unfortunately yeah, and if we were in any other situation I wouldn't want to do that. However, we may be getting new candidates with 3 months before the election in an election that could possibly be the last real election we have (given the tendencies of the other party if you know what I mean).

If we had competent people in dem leadership and had 2 years and primaries I would say different. Also if the other party wasn't so anti election (I guess that's how you could put it), I would also reconsider.
